Kaldoth
Well, I was digging through the top of my hobby closet and I found a pair of cut up, primed predator sponsons just lying in a box. They looked a little familiar, so I kept sifting through the various bits lying around in there and I found a dreadnought chassis to boot. Soon as I saw the little bugger I remembered the sponsons and the chassis were part of a dreadie conversion I was doing a loooong while back. I remember the conversion was actually the result of an unfortunate accident. I got my first plastic dread kit and I was putting it together when I knocked over the bonding solution I was using to fit the pieces together and spilled it all over the missile launcher arm. It got all melty and gooey, but the faceplate and the side of it were mostly in tact, so I cut off the faceplate, shaved it down as well as the front of the dread's chassis and glued it down. I definitely remember taking a precision hand saw and cutting the exhaust vents off the side of the missile launcher and gluing them to the top of the dread because I still have a scar on my finger from it :) Anyway, I figured if I had it I might as well glue it together, so here is what the final (unpainted) product looks like: http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c206/Kaldoth/PIC00975.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c206/Kaldoth/PIC00973.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c206/Kaldoth/PIC00974.jpg I don't know when I'll start painting this thing, or in what colors. What with my little Legio Chapter project going on, I doubt I'll have much time for it. But, you never know. I may just paint it in Legio colors to save time. I really am that lazy :) Anyway, C&C welcomed! Cheers, -Kal Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/142083-dreadnought-conversion/ Share on other sites
Mal
Nice use of spare pred guns. It looks good but I would consider bulking the top of the guns to more resemble the traditional dread arms. Kryppers
nicely done with the rocket launcher.. it certainly looks different than most dreads.. and has a tasteful touch of mortis dreads.. which rock. Custodian Athiair
that made me laugh when i first saw it (in a good way ;)) becuase i can just imagine it fireing the lascannos then firing a huge salvo of missiles into the breached hull and then the tank driver jujst going "Awwwwwww crud," :P but if 1 improvment (not that it isn't good) i would put another racket pod on the oppostie side but thats just me :D Athiair :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/142083-dreadnought-conversion/#findComment-1643231 Share on other sites
RWJP
Nice model Kaldoth! And painting wise definitely go for the Legio. I don't think anyone has done a Legio Dreadnought yet... payback
I dig this a lot. It reminds me of an old Battletech mech. Have you thought about doing something with the legs? I think this would look really good with some modified sentinel legs or something like that to make it a little taller. Kaldoth
Well, the photos make it look a bit more squat than it appears for some reason. It's really not that bad looking IRL. Though, I could extend the legs a bit somehow I suppose. I'll look something up, unless you all have ideas for me :P I'm not a big fan of the Sentinel legs on dreads. They just look too weedy for me carrying that big torso. To each his own, I suppose. Cheers all :( -Kal Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/142083-dreadnought-conversion/#findComment-1643737 Share on other sites
Mal
I think the reason he looks soo squat is the arms, they give the illusion of him being wider than taller, I still think you should add to the top of the sponsoons to make the general shape the same as a standard dread arm, that 'might' solve the problem, or at the very least give the normal scale perspective that all dreads share (they are all a tad bit squat) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/142083-dreadnought-conversion/#findComment-1643761 Share on other sites
lhg033
very cool makes me think of mechwarrior not sure about putting missiles on the other side but a targeting system off some kind might suit. think you need to bulk up behind the missiles in the arm joint to make it look like there is more depth for the missiles to come out of. lhg033 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/142083-dreadnought-conversion/#findComment-1644035 Share on other sites

Bulkier body to allow space for the missiles: http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/kk99/mlongcake/dredforwork2.jpg Hope this helps you out?
