Alpha Legion Army Blog

Recommended Posts

I'll begin with at short introduction since this is my first post.

Hello, my name is Daniel and I come from Sweden. I've been painting around 10 years but I've never completed an army.

This is my attemt at building a fully painted 2000 pts Alpha Legion army.

Here's my colour scheme test marines. I'm pretty happy with the overall look of them.

I'm using converted loyalist terminators since I traded my tau for a friends marines. Here's a WIP converted reaper auto cannon.

I still don't know how I should do the ammo for him.

And last but not least, my WIP obliterator.

My secret love is Alpha Legion (also my first army), so I really like to see one pop up. I like your colors and the dark approach you took. I think that AL should always be subdued in their coloring as they are all about you being there without knowing it.

Nice conversion on the termie and although I'm not a proponent of using oblits with the AL (for fluff reasons), it looks like you have a good thing going.

Keep up the good work!

Cheers,

Thanks for all the comments!

Xavyer Jubal: I've been thinking of using a shoota drum mag and an ammo belt.

Honda: I think an obliterator or two would be fitting for an Alpha Legion warband since they use all the recources they have to complete their objectives. I also love their rules so I had to have one or two. :P

More pics will maybe come later today.

I really like where you're going with the colours, dark and subdued chaos marines all the way. Would love to see this come to fruition. Are you going to go nuts with serpent/hydra heads? I know I would with AL.

Thanks. I will try to do some freehand hydras but I think they may be too hard for me.

Here's another terminator. The old lightning claws look much better than the new ones in my opinion.

My obliterator is almost complete. I just need to figure out where to put a flamer. I'm also not a 100% happy with the head, I'll maybe change it to a head without a helmet.

really liking the custom obliterator, very nice!

Thanks. The obliterator is now complete and it's been sprayed black. Unfortunately my cameras battery is empty so I will have to wait until tomorrow to get some pics. I've also sprayed my terminator lord, the lightning claw terminator, a raptor and a chosen.

My chosen use dark angels robes and will have very little chaos parts. I figured that they will be the ones who most often works with imperial forces so they can't be covered with spikes and horns. :D

New pics!

My lightning claws terminator. I haven't painted much. Only the blue on the helmet is finished.

I've begun painting my Obliterator. Only the blue is finished.

I've got a problem. :( I really like daemons but some people think it's unfluffy for AL. I'm thinking of either ignoring what people think and do a daemon heavy AL army or do a DIY chaos warband. I'm leaning towards doing a daemon heavy AL army. I was originally going to make a 2000pts CSM army and then later a 1000+ pts daemon army and play apocalypse with them.

What should I do?

!!! BIG LEGION SPOILER !!!

I'm thinking that atleast some AL must use daemons even though they became traitors in order to defeat chaos.

You could do up some cultists as "count as" daemons. The cultists' ability to pop up anywhere and reveal their true nature works well with the DS rules. Very fluffy.

But I like both the daemon fluff and minatures. I also got 18 Bloodletters and the chaos daemon codex so I will be using daemon minis.

Explain it as AL do anything to get victory and they like suprise attacks. What's more suprising that 18 bloodletters appearing out of a hole in the air?

Yeah, that could work. I'm also thinking of making cultists with heavy armour and use them as chaos space marine count as units.

Here's how my sorc will maybe look like. (he'll have a bolt pistol, not a banana :D) I will probably change the top of the staff. Comments and critisism is welcome.

Edit: I'll also greenstuff the belt so it'll look like a power armour belt

Edit 2: And the left arm will be lower...

I've made a base for him and I just realised that it's a very bad 5th ed base. :whistling: He will be hard to hide. Maybe it's best to use a normal base.

The left leg armour isn't smoothed yet since I'm waiting for it to harden a bit.

I'm thinking of giving him a helmet but I don't know if it looks better or worse.

Hmm, I just got an idea. I could use beastmen as count as csm. :P It'll give me a reason to use lots of daemons and if I add some armour I could justify a 3+ save. I love the old imperial guard beastman mini.

Not mine, found the pic on the web.

The Sorcerer is almost done. It will be ready for an undercoat tomorrow.

That white liquid on the cape is some modelling putty mixed with a lot of water. I don't remember the name. It's cheap and very bad for sculpting. I use it mostly for terrain but it's good for smoothing rough GS.
