titan136
Some people like female space marines. Others lobby vehemetly against their existence. I happen to fall under the former group. I think female space marines are neat and for me, a cool model trumps fluff any day of the week. So I'm doing some work, painting up a model i think is fantastically cool. I'm sure you've seen it. It's Doc Thunder's Black widows dreadnought: http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j232/ultramarines/Black%20Widows/DSC01130.jpg So far I've built the base for it, primed everything and have begun laying down the basic colors. I'm keeping myself on a tight schedule so as to get it out to the Doc in time for his tournament so you all need to help keep me motivated. I'm aiming to have it done and out by early next week. Here's what the base I've built: http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j232/ultramarines/Black%20Widows/BWD_Base2.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j232/ultramarines/Black%20Widows/BWD_Base1.jpg Here's the work I've done on the various parts so far: http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j232/ultramarines/Black%20Widows/BWDread_ACannon.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j232/ultramarines/Black%20Widows/BWDread_Chest1.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j232/ultramarines/Black%20Widows/BWDread_Chest2.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j232/ultramarines/Black%20Widows/BWDread_Red_Legs.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j232/ultramarines/Black%20Widows/dreadlegs_blackset.jpg And a WIP CCW arm just for good measure :D http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j232/ultramarines/Black%20Widows/BWDread_CCW_Arm_WIP.jpg Let me know what you guys think and if there's anywhere that needs improvement. I want to do this awesome model justice. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/142431-black-widows-dreadnought/ Share on other sites
Mal
That last arm needs a little more TLC but its comming along nicely, I think it'll look pretty hot once your done. The paint scheme is simple yet elegant, good contrast, highlighting is more than adequate (you might want to do some light specific location highlights for effect, its easy to do, just shine a lamp on the model and where the light falls do a slighly lighter highlight on those edges) I'll be looking forward to seeing it all together! Good job. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/142431-black-widows-dreadnought/#findComment-1647861 Share on other sites
Tyrannicide
While I'm part of the group that, to put it simple, despises female marines, I absolutely love your painting style. All the crisp highlights look very well and not too overboard. I actually look forward to seeing this finished. :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/142431-black-widows-dreadnought/#findComment-1647863 Share on other sites
Studio Silvernale
Looks interesting, but has a very strong chaosy feel to it. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/142431-black-widows-dreadnought/#findComment-1648071 Share on other sites

ImperialTemplari
Hey titan136 look great so far (I don't mind female marines) you will probably do this anyway as it is still WIP but a few washes of ogre skin and devlin mud on the metals would look good, it will give it that dirty used look. Well done. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/142431-black-widows-dreadnought/#findComment-1648199 Share on other sites
nurglespuss
I think metal chips would help suit this great looking (but completely ludicrous to me, as I am a fem-marine hater :( ) and actually it would fit very well within a SOB army, as it is both elegant and menacing. good job! WingsOfTheFalcon
Dubious fluff but excellent paintjob! Personally as long as the mini looks the business and the owner is happy then I'm all for it. Can't wait to see it built! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/142431-black-widows-dreadnought/#findComment-1648287 Share on other sites

Lord Donute
Very good work so far, very crisp highlights and all that jazz :) It might just be the pictures, but are you sure the dread will fit on the base with the legs like that? Arch«•»Angel
eh. i feel neutral about female SM. not too fluff crazy bout it. but i DO love your painting style. alwayz has this smooth feeling bout it. also love the CC chainsword wep there. might do somehting like that in the future. titan136
Mal: There's going to be a lot more free hand on the model so the additional lighting based highlights probably won't be noticeable anyway. Yeah the CCW was just a WIP in that pic. I've since finished it. Darth Potato: Glad you could overlook your hatred for female marines :) Cry Havok: Aw I love you too! haha Heru Talon: Oh you know you love me too! wiplash: mwahahaha join the dark (female) side! ImperialTemplari: I've actually mixed in a lot of brown ink in the washes I did on the metals, i guess they're not showing through. I actually like how it looks now. Slick, clean and deadly. nurglespuss: I'm considering some weathering on the paintjob but i'll have to see how much time i have. WingsOfTheFalcon: Well i'm sending it back unassembled but i'll see if i can piece together a shot before i send it off Heretic: Yeah those were the original female space marines (or actually they were female adventurers in power armor) Lord Donute: Doc thunder is planning on pinning the legs to the side of the base. I'm not sure how he's going to go about it but he sounds like a man with a plan. ArchAngel: yeah the CCW is cool eh? How much cooler does it look PAINTED!: http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j232/ultramarines/Black%20Widows/CCW1.jpg AND with FREEHAND? http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j232/ultramarines/Black%20Widows/CCW2.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/142431-black-widows-dreadnought/#findComment-1649236 Share on other sites

Hubernator
:P I'm one of those people that think female Space Marines should be the SoB and nothing more. However this looks to be a great dread once completed. I really like the CC weapon, a lot. Brother SRM
That CCW arm is one of the most brutal things I've ever seen! The freehand and classic caution stripes are just icing on the cake! I must ask, where did you get the spider legs from? Master Toddius
At first I was like, cool Dr. T. has some supporters and others interested in FSM's as well. I've always supported his work and feth the fluff, if GW has proven anything in the last 25 years; fluff is relative not relavent. The colors are smooth and has some nice highlights so I figured a B+ paintjob, which is great. Then I later saw the free hand pic down the page and went, uh oh we've moved to a whole different quality level. You have me very intrigued. I will be watching closely from the shadows. You won't see the smile below my brow -- but there is one right now. :o Keep it up.
