Explain to me why you would take a Vndicator over a Defiler

Pfffft... You can use a Dreadnought in the new rules, you just have to be smart. I actually treat mine as I would an enemy unit, I keep out of LoS and avoid it like the plague. It's always fun to see it go nuts and charge headlong into a swarm of 'Nids, though.

I run 1 Vindi and 1 Defiler, sometimes together and sometimes on opposite ends. Work well with each other, and keeps the table looking varied. I tend to combine their firepower as well, flatten most enemy units in one joint turn of shooting. As stated, Vindicator has better front armor than a defiler and can have a better chance at survival.

Dreadnought however, I give 2 DCCW's and just let him do whatever he wants, I'd love him to be reliable enough to give him a plasma cannon, but as it stands hes somewhat of a liability. At least if fire frenzy didnt inclue PIVOTS to face nearest unit, you could just LOS block him into shooting where you want. But the fact that he'll turn around and expose his rear Armor. Also with the dread, your telling me this guy is crazy enough to shoot friendly models, BUT isnt immune to crew shaken or stunned? <shakes head>

sure it's useable, but for what means? what can it do that other choices available to you can't with lesser risk? :)

They can do a few things others can't like move and fire a lascannon and missile launcher, have 4(5) str 10 attacks and a heavy flamer for 105 points, close in record time due to getting rage and gaining fleet, do insane damage with a fire frenzy, etc. The main thing is they can be very cheap point wise, and the effects of the rage can be minimized or even turned to your advantage with correct use.
