Ultramarines command squad

Recommended Posts

Hail Brothers. Here's my command squad which I completed some months ago. It's currently missing some normal marines armed with BP and CCW, but it's currently on hold until the new SM codex.

I hope i'll soon complete my terminator squad, even if i'm currently busy with my 2nd level graduation thesis.

As always it's simple codex style,no decals. Unfortunately highlights are not blended cause i've started blending recently with the termies.

I had already posted the apothecary and company champion alone, so if you do a little search you'll find more pictures.

C&C welcome, and good summer holidays to everyone! :P dang it's so hot here in Italy.

Some good looking Ultramarines, Killy. The freehand on the banner is marvelous, it looks fantastic really. How did you accomplish such a clean finish? Did you paint over a decal or anything?

Thanks mate. I didn't paint over a decal, i did it totally freehand. I used the codex image of the second company banner as reference, draw the outline of every part with the brush to keep the right proportions and simmetry and then started painting. It took quite some time  !

Really good stuff. That banner is excellent.

Just a few things I noticed to make them look that little bit better:

The eyes have little definition around them. As in it's just lens, and then the helmet, there's no shadow etc inbetween. If you don't get what I mean, I'll be happy to explain further.

Can't wait to see your Terminators :)

The freehand banner is spectacular. I spent some time trying to figure out how you did it, initially. I thought maybe it was a clear decal with black-lining that you imply filled-in with paint. But, it appeared genuine the more I looked at it, and then I read your posts further down the thread. Awesome.

The only criticisms I can make are to do something more with your bases. They look like they're standing in a Wal-Mart parking lot. Also, pull back just a bit on your photos. They're actually *too* high-res and make even slight imperfections stand out <_<

Uh Uh, each marine is more brillant than the other, I especially thanks Rouboute and The Emperor for giving you such abilities.

Your banner deserve to stand on the Hall of Honor, or just in front of the Gate of Eternity.

Congrats, and keep posting, my eyes want more

They look excellent! Especially that freehand! :P Good job! My only crit is the eyes on your marines. There is very little definition between where the lenses meet the faceplate part of the helmet. I would suggest painting a thin black line around the very edges of the lenses to add some definition. Other than that, excellent job. I look forward to seeing more

Cheers,

I love your style. I find it similar to the look of my Golden Fist Chapter Marines (Post coming when I finish painting my first tactical squad). I am painting my chest eagles, and skulls in a similar golden metallic (shinning gold). Might I ask, how did you achieve your gold on the chest eagles? is that metallic gold, dry-brushed over black with highlights of mithril silver?

Thanks.

Very cool indeed. I doubt I can add much to the discussion. I was looking at the banner and thinking "Damn, that's a nicely transferred decal". And then I found it's freehand! Amazing, simply amazing. My hat goes off to you. Good highlighting, though it slightly sticks out too much here and there. I like the touch with yellowish eyes on the sarge.

Thanks everyone for the feedback, it's always the best way to improve.

That banner is awesome and the highlighting on the blue is very crisp. My only gripe however, are those helmet lenses, they just dont do the already sweet paintjob justice.

;) Blacklining the lenses will definitely be my next improvement

On my new terminators i used the wh40k basing kit. It's really great, adds a lot of nice detail. I'll be upgrading these bases with rocks and debris as soon as i'm done with the termies.

It's brazen brass drybrushed over a black coat, then glazed with shining gold and highlighted with mithril silver.
