puffin
Here he is, a battle brother of 3rd Company, Ultramarines Chapter, my first ever painted marine. Note that I didn't put the model together or undercoat it (ebay) but all of the colour work is mine. Comments and advice from the experts glady received! http://img360.imageshack.us/img360/8606/marinefrontry9.jpg http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/71/marinesidelxj3.jpg http://img364.imageshack.us/img364/8186/marinesiderlm0.jpg http://img520.imageshack.us/img520/9691/marinerearig2.jpg
Honda
I'd say that you are off to a good start. You've done a good job of covering the figure. You might consider adding a little water to your paints to thin them down, then paint your coats in a couple of layers. I think you'll like that result a little bit more. Since you didn't put the figure together, I won't ding you on the mold lines B) , but do keep in mind for some of your other figures that those pesky lines really do take away from your painting effort, so it's worth taking the time to scrape them down. Next steps are to line up another one and go for it! Keep up the good work. Cheers,
RWJP
Nice start for a first figure. I echo Honda's thoughts, try thinning your paint and using multiple layers. Otherwise, stick with however you painted that blue, as it's got really good even coverage. And nice to see you've started on freehand already, get a bit more practice at it, and it'll look even better. Get another one on the go, and let's wee how much further you improve! ImperialTemplari
Hi puffin, the next step is to add some darker shadows with either very very watered down darker blue or the new blue washes, then add another highlight with lightened blue and you should be set, good work
Frost Knight
great start! i say you should water down some bolt gun metal and "wash" it in the recesses
Baal Dropout
Though I'm no expert, for starters I'd echo what were said by the posters above... - apart from mould lines, you might also want to "fix" up the spots where the bit/part "meets" up with the sprue (in the very first pic, that part at the shoulderpad's trim) - though from a gaming table rank-and-file figure standpoint, this may seem like a bit of luxury: you may want to cover up painting "mistakes" like paint going places where you dont want them (that speck of white at the right shoulderpad's trim below the troop insignia)... though maybe it's just the picture - if you're confident enough, doesnt smoke and drink coffee like it's water, you might want also put some paint-details in the "eye's" (as said, if you're confident enough, took me a year to bring up the courage to try it XD ) (for starters, you could paint boltgun metal or mithril silver for the lens/"eyesockets", and wash the recess with your favorite reddish wash) - oh, and last but not the least, you could also flock your base (and like above, paint it up ) :tu: Just my 2cents, hope these helped :tu:
