My Black Templar Army

Hello Brothers

I am new to these forums and thought I would show off my Army a bita and introduce myself. I started collecting templars when the Armaggedon campaign book came out. My Brother and I had some spare marine models left over from out previous collection (he space wolves and I a DIY army I wasnt happy with anymore). We debated between the Salamanders in the book and the Templars. My Brother jumped the gun and started painting a few Templars. I soon joined in and eventually took over the collection and added to it greatly.

My Brother painted about 10 of the boltgun armed troopers and I painted the rest. You may notice the eyes of the marines are green instead of the usual red. This happened because when the armaggedon campaign came out a White Dwarf artical showed a picture of them with green eyes and this is what my brother started doing and I picked up on, too late to change now.

My Terminators have the older white templar cross markings (pre latest templar codex) and as the sword Brethren didnt exist when I started the army my command squad guys have white helmets and crosses also to denote a higher status in the crusade. When the sword brethren were introduced I just decided to use my command squad guys as dual purpose command squad or sword brethren as needed. I am not a fan of the newer style red marking on SBs or the assault marines, too much red. Black and white for me. I use an occasional red cross on a guy as a type of battle honor.

Here are a few puctures, more are in my B&C album. Im not the best painter but I am happy with my results.

Thanks for your intrest, and Im glad to be a member of B&C, nice to here from other Templar players and see their work

Thats quite an impressive Templars force you have there!!! Quite like the green look to there eyes. If you added a darker shade of green to the eyes it will make the current green eyes look like highlights (if that makes sense?). Like the land raider! Over all not a bad paint job ^_^

yes I should do a dark green first for the eyes then highlight with a lighter green, just too lazy and I hate doing the eyes for some reason. They dont look as bright in real life, I think the flash on the camera brightens them up a lot when I take a picture, I noticed the reds on the commanders' cape look a lot brighter also in the pictures than it really is. It may be that I use a strong coat of gloss varnish (spray) on my marines when Im done painting them for a shiny black look. Probably reflects the flash more.

Yes only one land raider, but I am drooling over the new variant when it makes its appearance in the new Marine Codex, just want to read the stats first before I commit.

Thank you for your comments and I must say I really enjoy seeing other Templars pictures, I get really good painting and modeling ideas. Some of you guy's painting skills are mad, just mad I tell you.

Hello. I really like your army, they look sick. How did you get the pieces for them? I am new to warhammer and I don't understand where to get your troops because some are not on the games workshop site. I read you can convert them from normal space marines, is that the only way?

All of the stuff I have on my marines is standard GW stuff with a few Forge World pieces from the black templar range added on the vehicles. Some of the vehicles and a few troopers are just really old models, out of production. I did use a few of the crosses off the Empire shield spures from fantasy. As I started this army when the Armaggedon campaign came out and before the current Templar codex came out many of the marines and bits are from older marine sprues, I think they are still available. This is why my paint scheme for some of my guys is a little different from the current codex, not going to take the time to go back and repaint stuff.

The one guy I really like is the plasma gun guy in the bolter armed squad. I had the plasma gunner torso left over from a bike squadron set and simply flattened the waist portion of a plastic marines legs and glued the torso on. I like the positioning of him holding the PG on his hip.

I had a lot of the troopers and about half of the vehicles done before the current codex came out and also before the templar upgrade box came out. My current task is to add the newer templar bits to new trooper model as I build and paint them and mix them in with the squads to establish a more current templar feel. I need to go back and add some more decoration to my Land Raider Crusader as it wasnt really the style at the time of build to add a lot of decoration to the vehicles. My LRC looks good but a little bland compared to my normal Land Raider.

Nazrael, the 1 rule to getting templars:

BLOOD CLAWS, everyone in this forum would recommend them, you get all the BP and CCW weapons you need.

You just build them as normal marines and you can buy a templar upgrade box if you want a more templary feel. A good rule to go by is every 2 squads for one upgrade box. The rest is just limited by your imagination, alot of people like using bretonnian bits for more knightly helms and neophyte conversions. The GW site has some useful information Linky

Excellent stuff, Brother Mord. Even though I paint the eyes of my Templars red, your use of green looks excellent as is perfectly suited to the colour scheme. The white-helmed sword brethren are also very impressive! Good job, and keep it up, in the name of Dorn!
