Starting a Word Bearer's Host

Thumbs up for the Apostle, Possessed, Dread and Spawn (even though they aren't very practical)

Ather than that:

WB Marine Squads = 12 men

Daemon packs = Chaos Holy numbers.

Since you are willing to adapt your lord to fluff standards you might as well go for the whole package :D

I would do :confused: but for a number of reasons. Points cost (to get the squads to 12 I'd have to cut other stuff out) and cost (you get box sets of 10 Marines - seems a pretty reasonable number for a squad).

As for fluff - The nice thing about Word Bearers is that the Host structure changes depending on visions form the DA right? So therefore he's been having lots of visions about the number 10 lol.

Been playing around with the list again, and if I cut the nurgle icon squad out and the Chaos Spawn, I can fit a squad of terminators in and a Summoned Greater Daemon. Pretty tempted by that!

I always figured Icons were the same as any special weapon. So a group of undivided marines that are given the job of assaulting on the front lines in the upcoming battle would pray to khorne right before and invoke his blessings and then carry his icon with them. The next battle the same squad might be praying to tzeentch or nurgle to bless them for that specific battle to help them hold an objective better, etc. Doesn't mean they don't worship them all, they just might call for the blessings of one for some specific task.

I agree!

I also notice that if the icon bearer is killed, the squad loses the ability granted by the icon. So the Marines in the squad don't actually have the mark of Khorne, Slaanesh etc (like the bezerkers, noise marines etc), just that the icon gives them the same benefit as the mark. So the marines can still be undivided and worship all the gods, but if they've been selected to assault, they're given the icon of khorne to help them (I know I'd want it!). Same if they're tasked to defend something, they'd ask Nurgle for help, or Tzeentch etc.

Heavy Bolters, cos thats what you get in the box set lol. For the Nurgle squad I was thinking of putting a different one in there (I've only bought squad 1 so far) but not sure what would best suit a defensive role.

I know your pain... did the same *glances at his box of Black Legionnaires which contains 'one' Heavy Bolter Marine which will probably never see use again*

This is how I see it, cult troops like Plague marines, Noise Marines, Thousand sons and Brzekers shouldn't really be in a Bearer host (despite the Black Legion weak fluff reasons, I think these should remain with their orignal legions).

Bearing an icon is just asking a God to watch over you when you need them, to me this is EXACTLY how Bearers seem to work in the fluff. Looking to a paticular God to match a paticular situation and then looking to a new one in a different situation.

Ok, here's the new list. So far I have bought the 2 squads, 1 rhino, and in the position of modelling the Dark Apostle. The 1500 point goal is now looking as:

HQ

Dark Apostle = 150 points

Chaos Lord with power armour, plasma pistol, accursed crozius (daemon weapon + personal icon)

Summoned Greater Daemon = 100 points

Elites

Terminators = 205 points

5 Marines inc AC armed with combi-melta + power weapon, 1 Marine armed with reaper autocannon + chainfist, 2 marines with twin-linked bolter + power weapon, 1 Marine armed with combi-flamer + powerfist

Possessed = 165 points

5 possessed marines + Rhino APC

Dreadnought = 120 points

Plasma Cannon + close combat weapon + extra armour

Troops

Squad 1 = 240 points

10 Marines inc AC with plasma pistol + power fist, plasma gun + heavy bolter, Icon of CG

Squad 2 = 265 points

10 Marines inc AC with power weapon, flamer + meltagun, Icon of Khorne, Rhino APC + Dozer Blade

5 Summoned Daemons = 65 points

5 Summoned Daemons = 65 points

Heavy Support

Chaos Vindicator = 125 points

Total = 1500 points

You have some expensive offerings there :D 55 and 30 points.

I see you went for fluff above powerplay. I say lose the gear on one aspiring champ as a cheap sacrifice. A powerfist and plasma pistol in a gunline plasma/HB squad is pretty much useless. Either exchange the bolter for an assault weapon and an APC to get them into CC fast or lose the gear on the champ. (I see you went for the squad shown in the codex). If you lose the gear on the champ you can use the points to swap the vindi for a Defiler and you'll have 2 Daemon engines ;)

To make your army even more fluffy you could lose some of the gear on the Termis and Dread and change the number of the lesser daemon in god specific holy numbers. Don't know which daemons you were planning on using. If you go with Nurgle and Slaanesh you only need 39 pts. for it. It will also increase the numebr of scoring units. I'm not to sure about putting a PC on a dread either ;)
