Chosen as a Troop Choice

DMN

Recommended Posts

Forget the one-liners (as I sit eating KD) ... the one-letterers. (Hey, it's actually a word!!!)

You may not be able to take chosen as troops. However, you may take a squad of chosen equipped with 4 meltas and 2 lighting claws (in a rhino) to come up behind enemy lines. And if you're lucky, you can have a Greater Daemon pop out for good measure.

Thanks for the replys.

Thats a bit of a bummer, looks like its lots of normal Marine squads for me then....

My current Chosen squad is geared up with:

As Champ; PW and Plasma Pistol

5 Chosen: BP and Chainsword

1 Chosen: Flamer

1 Chosen: Meltagun

Is this allowed or not?

Thanks for the replys.

Perfectly legal. ;)

Excellent, thankyou.

My idea for them is to use them to tie up enermy forces long enough for the rest of the army to get into postion. With the Melta and the Flamer, they should be able to cope with most things.

-

8 guys arn't going to tie up enemy forces long enough for you to clear your throat.

Not saying that chosen don't have their uses, but u can't expect 8 guys to tie up someone else's whole army. And with build out just being melta/flamer & champ it's really more of a normal csm squad build out.

Thanks for the replys.

Err... It isn't... :)

[thinks="OMGOMGOMG I've just corrected a mod! Have mercy! Have MERCY!!!] :faints:

You cannot give a plasma pistol to the same model as a power weapon (not even the champ):

  • Four models may take one option from that huge list, which includes the plasma pistol and power weapon. You cannot give one model two upgrades from that list.
  • As one special/heavy gun and the icon are separate entries from the 'huge list', they can be put on a model who has already taken other upgrades.
  • The aspiring champion's upgrade choices are not separate from the squad. He doesn't even increase the squad's Ld (it's already 10). All the champ gets is an extra attack, and that's it.

You could, however, simply swap the plasma pistol and meltagun round. That'd be legal, even if it doesn't look right!

PS: If you haven't got he newer codex, then you should get it, as Gothard says. ;)

It would indeed seem like you are correct. Well, swapping the plasma pistol and meltagun around wouldn't make it leagal either after closer inspection since the meltagun switch is part of the "huge" list of options as well. ;)

Aha! BUT, there are two ways to take a meltagun with chosen. You'll notice that there is a separate column of options (lower half of the second column) that allows one heavy/special weapon, and this is not part of the 'huge list'. Therefore, you can take a meltagun/flamer from here and a power weapon from the huge list on the same model (but only once per unit). You could even give him the icon too!

This is however a very RAW approach, and it would be simpler (and possibly safer) if you only give each model just one upgrade (or none).

Is it still possible to use Chosen CSM as a troop choice? I know in the previous Codex you could if you used Chaos undivided and didn't have any cult troops or something.

I don't even recall we were ever aible to use chosen as a troop choice ?

they are elite's.

From the old codex:

Troops Choice: If the army is led by a Chaos Lord bearing the Mark of Chaos Undivided then Veteran Chaos Space Marines may be taken as an Elites or Troops choice. In any other circumstances they may only be taken as an Elites choice.

Looks like someone skipped a dex.

Just give them all Plasmas... A Rhino... Jump out and rapid fire the hell out of anything that gets in your way.

-

Why would you do that ??

A rino makes them lose infiltrate (which you pay 3 pts per for), and a havoc squad could the exact same thing for 30pts cheaper (in 10 man squad).

The good thing about chosen is that they can take a hvy weop and infiltrate.

Well it has been a while...

Oh well, looks like I'll have to invest in some normal tactical-squad style troops, cult troops just does not fit the Malal feel of the army.

Thanks for the replys.

yes as people said before me it's allowed but you flamer and melta dudes also have BP an chainswords and you normal chosen and champ. have bolters to

so you can opt to rapid fire with them or to assault(all normal marine squads have this even havocs i think)
