MC and unit screens

So i fought some Tyranid, and some debate has come up whether the rather large Carnifexes and Hive tyrants get cover from intervening units in front of them. Some discussion came up about "if you can see the head and body of the unit, then it doesn't get a cover save" but now we can't find it in the book. Are we just looking in the wrong places? This would make a big difference when fighting Tyranid and Eldar with their very large annoying MCs hiding behind very tiny units.

My Tyranid opponent is arguing that the 50 percent rule only applies to terrain cover saves and not intervening models, what page number(s) are you getting that from?

Page 51 , under the section on monstrous creatues.

"at least 50% of its body (as defined on page 16) has to be in cover from the point of view of the majority of the firing models."

If he is trying to say that ripper swarms are giving a Carnifex a cover save, I think it would be fair to say that the grass is giving your models a cover save. Its about the same size comparison.

Monstrous Creatures of Vehicles must be 50% obscured to be in cover. There are no exceptions or conditions anywhere with regard to what is doing the obscuring. The only grey area is if the rule that says the gaps in a unit count mean that a unit essentially counts as a wall the height of its models for firing at such a target or if you need 50% obstruction from actual phsyical minis.
