New army of GK

The faq stickied somewhere is still generally good.

two good solid troops choices.. myself i operate one with no special weapons, and one with 2 incinerators. The latter onboard a landraider.

1 brother capo with retinue (8 termies) in a motley crusader. whatever else i can scrounge on either raiders or sniper dreadnaught or an extra troops squad as i can spend them. Any loose change goes on melta bombs for the justicars.

Well, I can't really help you with the use of ISTs, but if you're looking for a 1k Dread based GK list, here's what I run:

HQ: Brother-Captain w/ Psycannonn

Troops: 3 x 7-man Power Armor Grey Knight Squads w/ targeters

Heavy Support: 2 x Grey Knight Dreadnought w/ Twin Linked Las-Cannon, Missile Launcher, extra armor + smoke.

Lets just say that most people are a little surprised when they see you put down 21 Grey Knights at 1k. A list like this comes with one major weakness, however; very little AP2 weaponry. At 1k the problem is manageable but I imagine that it could be a significant issue against, say, a Plague-marine heavy C:SM list.

At 1.5k, I'd run a two LR list myself, but if you wanted to run an all infantry 1.5k list I'm thinking something like a BC or GM with Psycannon and terminator retinue with psycannon, 3 GK Dreads with TLLC + ML and as many PAGK fit in the left over points is more or less how'd I'd run.

As the above may suggest, if you intend to play a Grey Knight heavy list, the armament for your dreads basically *must* be Twin-Linked Las-Cannons and Missile Launchers as you desperately need anti-tank.

My 1k list varies slightly from Amplifieds though i think the general idea is the same.

GKGM - Psycannon

Just + 4PAGK - 2Psycannons,Targeter

Just + 4PAGK - Frag

Just + 4PAGK - Frag

Dread - TLLC,Searchlight

Dread - TLLC,Searchlight

Orbital Barrage

5 less models than Amplifieds however a better HQ, funny and sometimes useful orb barrage, 2 psycannons to add a bit of weight to the firepower. No ML on the dreads as i cant bring myself to do it. The searchlights are there because i have 2 points left and if i use them once im happy!!!

Standard units include the following (all are solid, and selection falls to playstyle preferences):

~8-10 PAGKs, walking or onboard a Land Raider (1-2 incinerators if mounted, no specials if walking)

~5-6 PAGKs with 2 psycannons (use only in limited quantities, and only once you have at least one of the larger PAGK squads)

~5-8 ISTs in Rhino with 2 meltaguns

~8-10 ISTs, preferably in Chimera, with 2 plasma/grenade (plasma generally preferred)

~Inquisitor with psycannon and 3 gun servitors, 1-2 sages, 1 mystic, and possibly acolyte(s)

~Dread with las/missile + extra armour

~Dread with DCCW and assault cannon (only if you use heavy 4, rending) or plasma, EA, possibly smokes

~Land Raider with EA

~Crusader (only if you use heavy 4, rending ass cannons)

If you like Dreads, take them instead of Raiders, and walk your PAGKs up the board. Take 2 las/missile dreads first, for anti-tank. Some ISTs for additional anti-tank are nice, but you need the dreads for long-range, early-game AT. The third dread could be ass/DCCW, plasma/DCCW, or even another las/missile (or auto/missile, if you face a lot of AV10-11 stuff). Then take a cheap HQ (basic BC, maybe with psycannon or psy bolts or storm shield), and fill in the rest of your points with basic squads of PAGKs with no upgrades.

For more detailed analysis, the stickied thread is still good. Just remember that it was written in 4th, and keep that difference in mind as you read it.

hmm... maybe I should take a look at that thread again and update my portion of it...
