Commissar Molotov
Here's the first WIP for our Lord, Melchor. Because this model is slightly smaller, most of the heads we tried were too large. I've come up with this alternative - it's a Mk.III helmet taken from the power fist of the Master of the Arsenal figure. I cut it out of the power fist. With a bit of green-stuffing, it ought to work: http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z121/mnesimache/Black%20Legion/Melchor-WIP-1.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/143132-black-legion-army-blog/page/2/#findComment-1694857 Share on other sites
Ferrus Manus
Well I think its anice base model to work off Mol. Also, I think that the use of the Mk III helm is a good reminder that he has been around since the heresy and it ties in with your armies theme. Its making me what to carry on with my chaos marines. Keep it up! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/143132-black-legion-army-blog/page/2/#findComment-1694865 Share on other sites
Commissar Molotov
Thanks! This is the work I've done on Melchor whilst chatting to Aerion the Faithful on MSN: http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z121/mnesimache/Black%20Legion/Melchor-WIP-3.jpg http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z121/mnesimache/Black%20Legion/Melchor-WIP-2.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/143132-black-legion-army-blog/page/2/#findComment-1695296 Share on other sites
Tyrannicide
The berzerkers are looking fine Mol, and that Chaos Lord is coming along nicely. The sculpting looks good and I especially like the helmet you've chosen. The only problem I have with Melchor is his 'collar' armor. It looks far too soft and weak. I think it would look better if you went back and sharpened the edges and top of the neck guard. Commissar Molotov
You're the third person to tell me that (Barrett and Aerion collared* me on MSN). That said, from the top the Gorget is as thick as a plastic Mk.8 torso. Part of it is the lighting, I think. I'm going to wait until it cures a bit before trying to do anything drastic to it - it's taken me five attempts and much swearing to get it to where it is now. I'm surprised you didn't say anything about the dreadnought! ;) * No pun intended. Tyrannicide
Haha, much swearing I can picture it now. As for the dreadnought, I would simply kill it, if I added my opinion to the mix of the others. ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/143132-black-legion-army-blog/page/2/#findComment-1695304 Share on other sites
Barret
* No pun intended. Suuuuure. What are you planning to arm this guy with? Or is his left fist just going to be clenched dramatically? Commissar Molotov
I was going for the dramatic fist (of DOOOOOOM) and then a daemon weapon in his other hand. Nick and I have had disagreements - I want a sword, he wants an axe. Commissar Molotov
http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z121/mnesimache/Black%20Legion/Melchor-WIP-4.jpg http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z121/mnesimache/Black%20Legion/Melchor-WIP-5.jpg This shows the problem with the gorget as it stands. I think I just need to add a bit more GS to the left-hand side (our left) and smooth it out a little. I'd welcome some input on that, though. http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z121/mnesimache/Black%20Legion/Headhunter-8c-1.jpg http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z121/mnesimache/Black%20Legion/Headhunter-8d.jpg And Gribble returns! http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z121/mnesimache/Black%20Legion/Gribble-a.jpg http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z121/mnesimache/Black%20Legion/Gribble-b.jpg (And he's brought a friend, who needs some genestealer arms.) Ferrus Manus
haha, I do like those gribbles. As for the collar, it looks a bit fat, I'd suggest maybe getting a knife and slowly slice a bit off and it makes it more angular at the same time. El-Diablo
Gribble and friend are looking good, nice to see some comic relief in any force. As for the colar, its looking fine, but as has already been said, it needs a little sharpening up. Once its dry cut a very thin slice from the top, that should give it the shape you want. Commissar Molotov
Yeah, I just need to find some genestealer arms for them, though! Midian - thanks, I've shaped it a bit, and it looks a little better. Cliché of clichés, it looks better in real life than it does in the picture, but I've still done a bit to it. I'm hoping that paint will cover a multitude of sins. (Also, check your PMs!) Commissar Molotov
A few more pictures today - including some painted models! I saw Nick today and got a bunch of the army off him in order to take some quick pictures before the rain came in. http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z121/mnesimache/Black%20Legion/Karnak-WIP-1.jpg This just shows what I have left to do on Karnak - I just need to GS these pipes into the main body of the dread. These are some of the Word Bearers we've worked on. Not a priority at the moment, but I had the models to hand so I took a few pictures. There's one more - with a flamer - but I'll take pictures of him tomorrow if I get chance. http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z121/mnesimache/Black%20Legion/WordBearers-WIP-1.jpg http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z121/mnesimache/Black%20Legion/WordBearers-WIP-2.jpg http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z121/mnesimache/Black%20Legion/WordBearers-WIP-3.jpg http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z121/mnesimache/Black%20Legion/WordBearers-WIP-4.jpg http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z121/mnesimache/Black%20Legion/WordBearers-WIP-5.jpg The Champion's backpack is that from Chaplain Grimaldus of the Black Templars, with the vents replace with Chaos ones. http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z121/mnesimache/Black%20Legion/Abaddon-conversion.jpg This one's just a quick picture to show our Abaddon compared to the normal, Metal one. Now, this is our first Legionnaire squad, led by Arkhan. Arkhan first, and then his boys: http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z121/mnesimache/Black%20Legion/Arkhan-Squad-1.jpghttp://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z121/mnesimache/Black%20Legion/Arkhan-Squad-2.jpg http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z121/mnesimache/Black%20Legion/Arkhan-Squad-3.jpg http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z121/mnesimache/Black%20Legion/Arkhan-Squad-4.jpg http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z121/mnesimache/Black%20Legion/Arkhan-Squad-5.jpg http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z121/mnesimache/Black%20Legion/Arkhan-Squad-7.jpghttp://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z121/mnesimache/Black%20Legion/Arkhan-Squad-6.jpg http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z121/mnesimache/Black%20Legion/Arkhan-Squad-8.jpg http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z121/mnesimache/Black%20Legion/Arkhan-Squad-9.jpg http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z121/mnesimache/Black%20Legion/Arkhan-Squad-10.jpg http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z121/mnesimache/Black%20Legion/Arkhan-Squad-11.jpg http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z121/mnesimache/Black%20Legion/Arkhan-Squad-12.jpg http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z121/mnesimache/Black%20Legion/Arkhan-Squad-13.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/143132-black-legion-army-blog/page/2/#findComment-1697460 Share on other sites
Varney
I love the antique Flamer on one of the WB's. It's from an old Raptor model, right? I believe I have an identical one in my bits box. Arkhan and his squad look great, but the black is too matte for my tastes. I guess they are just primed in the black areas? A bit of gloss would make them look more... obsidian-like, I think. Apart from that, they are just wonderful. Very nice and cleanly painted! Draakur
...yaaaayyy! I like them B) Especially the first marine after Arkhan, the full body chaos star is a great idea and looks fantastic. Any reason why Arkhan himself has a blue templar cross showing? Anyway Abaddon looks great, and the bitz choice is spot on for the WB squad. Curious as to whether they're completed, though? I feel the same as Varney about the matte finish. Anyway loving the whole army concept, really looking forward to seeing it come to fruition. There's something just a little too badass about BL, I think I'd have a tough time choosing anyone else over them if I started a chaos force. Your direction looks promising :( Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/143132-black-legion-army-blog/page/2/#findComment-1697509 Share on other sites

I had it sitting around in a bitz-box and thought it looked suitably daemonic for the Word Bearers. I want to take it off, though, to replace the hand on the trigger with a plastic hand. The current one is a little too small. Whilst I can GS the supporting hand relatively easily, this one needs replacing. With regards to the black, Nick's a huge proponent of the Black Legion because they paint up quickly. He's a notoriously slow painter - I'll pass along the glossy suggestion to see what he thinks, though - but our primary goal is to make a legal, playable force. And they look better in a squad: http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z121/mnesimache/Black%20Legion/Arkhan-Squad-1-1.jpg ...yaaaayyy! There's something just a little too badass about BL, I think I'd have a tough time choosing anyone else over them if I started a chaos force. Your direction looks promising :woot: Nick and I made a Black Templar force a while back, where we used blue instead of red for the details. This is an homage to that force - the idea was that Arkhan's taken it as a trophy. I had the thought he'd snatched it from a corpse or out of a fire or something. I'm going to suggest to Nick that he make the edges seem scorched. It might emphasise the fact that it's a trophy he's taken. Totally agreed with you on the Black Legion, though. I think they're one of the best Legions. They can do anything (except conquer Cadia. They've had trouble with that one...) Being a BL collector and a fan of their fluff, i'm subscribing to this thread! :) Interesting color choice. I see you're going for gold-low. The opposite of me. ^__^ Yeah, well these are the basic line troopers. The higher up the hierarchy you go, the more gold there is. Though we are trying to make a 'militaristic' force, so I doubt they'll be too blinged up. Hopefully I'll have pictures of our second WIP squad (including the Champion, which'll need converting tomorrow.) and the final WIPs for Melchor himself. jeremy1391
dude where do i start!!! normally most black legion armies are soooo boring however, yours are far from that i love the "borgesque" skin tone i also love how you are mixing older mark imperial bits into your forceis amazing!!! JetfireUK
I've just been looking through this thread and the amount of time and creativity that's gone into your army is amazing. I really like the look of the marines with the Black Templar and Dark Angel torsos - I'm tempting to do something with my failed Dark Angel figures... Keep up the good work as this is a very inspiring!
