Barret
Mustache == win. Seriously, it does. The hair is good, too, and the pose. He's very menacing, without being a more usual, "Blarg! I have horrible skin and constipation!" kind of expression. Draakur
Haha, I like what's going on here. Awesome to see such a unique take on a 40K villain :P For some reason I'm seeing him with pale purple, undead-ish looking skin, and white hair and moustache. Not sure why I think this will work... :) I get the feeling I'm actually basing the idea on Cervantes from Soul Calibur, now that I think about it! Just an idea, anyway :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/143132-black-legion-army-blog/page/4/#findComment-1777653 Share on other sites
El-Diablo
Nothing quite like a moustache! Nice clean sculpting Mol, your definatly getting better. For some reason I want to see him painted in black metal style corpse paint. The face reminds me of pretty much every early 90's Norwigian BM band. Not a bad thing though, I loves me black metal. ;) If you wont, I will. ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/143132-black-legion-army-blog/page/4/#findComment-1777939 Share on other sites
Commissar Molotov
very macho :DI think it is well done Haha, thanks. :) The Black Legion's full of manly men, not like those pansy Emperor's Children! Mustache == win. Seriously, it does. The hair is good, too, and the pose. He's very menacing, without being a more usual, "Blarg! I have horrible skin and constipation!" kind of expression. For ten thousand years, too! Haha, I like what's going on here. Awesome to see such a unique take on a 40K villain :) For some reason I'm seeing him with pale purple, undead-ish looking skin, and white hair and moustache. Not sure why I think this will work... :P I get the feeling I'm actually basing the idea on Cervantes from Soul Calibur, now that I think about it! Just an idea, anyway :) Skin colour's actually something interesting to me. I really liked how Nick painted our Abaddon, with white skin. That's based off the 'eavy metal painting guide for the current Abaddon model. I thought it went really well with the Black armour, and went with the whole 'pallid and evil' thing. Nick's painted some of the Legionnaires but he's gone for a blue, Borg-esque skintone and I don't like it. I'm bugging him to go back and make them lighter (or whiter) when he's done. I can see this guy with white skin, but then I also liked the idea of white hair. So perhaps white skin and grey hair. Who knows? Nothing quite like a moustache! Nice clean sculpting Mol, your definatly getting better. For some reason I want to see him painted in black metal style corpse paint. The face reminds me of pretty much every early 90's Norwigian BM band. Not a bad thing though, I loves me black metal. :D If you wont, I will. ;) I'm pretty confident sculpting fur - the fur of Melchor is seemless now there's paint on it. It's getting beyond that that flummoxes me. I'm never going to be a world-class sculptor - certainly not a scratch-sculptor - but I'd like to progress beyond gap-filling and the like. Not entirely sure how to go further, though. Nick bought that Khorne Champion, so it looks like we'll be able to go further with our Kharnalike. Perhaps pictures of that tomorrow! Also, send me a PM - I have some things to discuss with you. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/143132-black-legion-army-blog/page/4/#findComment-1777982 Share on other sites

Its a good one to start with as you can be as rough as you like and get away with it, but it gives you time to learn what gs does. Looking forward to the Kharnalike, he's definatly a character im going to attempt to cross over at some point. Oh yeah, check your pm's. I'm starting to understand how it cures and how I should leave it before sculpting it sometimes. I've done some sculpting on my Ork Kommandos, I'll send you pics of them at some stage. Looking forward to the Kharnalike, he's definatly a character im going to attempt to cross over at some point. Cross over? That sounds neat... :P I've been working on some fluff for him. At the moment he's Dalthus Mire, the Bloodfeeder, Chosen of Khorne and all-round nastyman. A paladin-like figure that wonders through the Black Legion, causing death and destruction! The idea I had was that the other Berserkers led by Brakhar (whom I'd considered would be quite serious, reserved Khorne-worshippers, picking the right strategic moment to unleash their berserker fury) would be appalled by him and would have differing interpretations on how to properly worship the Blood God and pay Him His dues. Commissar Molotov
A few more pictures today. These Rhino hatches are Nick's second attempt, and show a marked improvement, I think. He recently got a shipment from forgeworld and so he's been able to assemble two of the rhinos (they've been pinned together until now) in his mechanised list, which he's used to good effect. http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z121/mnesimache/Black%20Legion/Rhino-Hatches-02.jpg Also, I've managed to get a few squad shots. I have camera woes of a different type to most people, it seems! I can do the close-up shots, but when I try to move out a bit, I really have trouble getting my camera to focus. As a consequence, these photos are a little fuzzier than I would like, but it shows you most of what we've been up to: Squad Arkhan: http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z121/mnesimache/Black%20Legion/Arkhan-Squad-02.jpg Squad Sorghar: http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z121/mnesimache/Black%20Legion/Sorghar-Squad-01.jpg Squad Brakhar: http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z121/mnesimache/Black%20Legion/Brakhar-Squad-01.jpg And a slightly better picture of Sorghar than the one on the last page: http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z121/mnesimache/Black%20Legion/Sorghar-Squad-02.jpg Also, our Vindicator: http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z121/mnesimache/Black%20Legion/Vindicator-01.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/143132-black-legion-army-blog/page/4/#findComment-1778670 Share on other sites

Commissar Molotov
Thanks, Mick. ;) An update that I forgot to add: Our Kharnalike, Dalthus Mire, is progressing. I've managed to get the head from the new Fantasy Khorne Champion, and I'll be using it on this model. http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z121/mnesimache/Black%20Legion/Kharn-02.jpg http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z121/mnesimache/Black%20Legion/Kharn-03.jpg We plan to have the original Gorechild chainaxe in his other hand, and he'll have either a severed head or a skull in his raised hand. It should be interesting, because I've not seen Khârn painted up in Black Legion colours before. :jaw: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/143132-black-legion-army-blog/page/4/#findComment-1778822 Share on other sites

Commissar Molotov
Im sure i've seen that Vindi before..... Haha, yeah. Blackjack13
I would love to do that style of embezzlement on the hatchs of my Steel Brethren Rhinos when I get them in January (with my second installment of my student loan *whistle and look innocent*) but I fear I lack the necissarry skills... Commissar Molotov
Well, a quick update (but a very overdue one.) Nick has been causing havoc with his Obliterators but the current model sucks a lot. So he sawed it apart to get it standing straight, and I green-stuffed it back together. http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z121/mnesimache/Black%20Legion/Obliterator-0001.jpg And, for you Team Fortress fans, a Heavy and a Scout. All together now: "Don't touch Sandvich!" http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z121/mnesimache/Black%20Legion/Obliterator-0002.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/143132-black-legion-army-blog/page/4/#findComment-1861487 Share on other sites
Drudge Dreadnought
The whole force looks good, very effective conversions. I think the plasticard symbols on the vehicles are one of the strongest areas. My only complaint is the lord's weapon. The lord himself looks very good without being overly ornate, but the weapon is a bit underwhelming imo. I look at it and think power weapon, not daemon weapon. Commissar Molotov
No, it's a fair point. Nick and I did consider sculpting flames on the daemonweapon. We also considered swapping out the axe-head for the one from the 2002 Games Day Chaos Champion. Ultimately the plain axe suits Nick because at smallers points levels he likes to use it as a power weapon. It's probably the one thing I'd change, but I don't think it breaks the model. Perhaps this is Melchor before he found the daemon-weapon! Dark Disciple
Very nice army, the vindi looks great. The obliterator is amazing, what head did your freind use? Oh and I cant wait to see the Paladin of Khorne! Disciple I do actually have another picture of our Kharnalike -he has a slightly different skull in his hand and we've transferred his chainaxe to his other hand. I'll get some pictures of that for you. We just need to drill the neck out and put the new head on. Well thats a good reason. It still looks great. I'm glad you didn't use that other axe, it looks a bit cartoony to me. But i'm not a huge fan of the older sculpts. You're a hard man to please! Nick told me earlier that he's done everything except the banner (which he's in the process of doing) - so Melchor's painted pictures will likely appear soon. He says he's close to having 500 points painted.
