Mal
I think there is enough actual battle damage, if you want to add more, do some paint chips. I would recommend putting some turtle wax on that guy the top of his head looks darker than the rest. I would also suggest some extreme highlights (much lighter colour, very very thin highlight) Aside from that, its looking good Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/143154-master-kree-of-the-crimson-guard/#findComment-1657689 Share on other sites

HJL
after reading through some of their charecters fluff, i have decided that they are heretics and are in need of extermination. their apothecary and his genetic alterations seem very much like that hideous traitor, fabius bile! frootbat
so thats a Crimson Guard marine, what genseed are they from. Good thing I named my custom marines Crimson Guardians :o (didnt know these existed) Other than what The Fly Lords of Terra put in their Macharian Crusade bookthis is all I can find on the chapter : http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Crimson_Guard Which isnt much really... So I guess I'm free to make some of it up myself. I'm kind of leaning towards Imperial Fists as their parent chapter or perhaps a third or subsequent founding chapter of a Imperial Fist offshoot. I think its the slightly knightly look to the armour and the chapter icon that do it. Kinda reminds me of heraldry. Pretty funny you very nearly used the exact same name by accident, I wonder how often that happens? That's bad-a$$. I especially love the hammer head! Cheers I was a bit worried about the hammerhead actually, thought i might have overdone it. after reading through some of their charecters fluff, i have decided that they are heretics and are in need of extermination. their apothecary and his genetic alterations seem very much like that hideous traitor, fabius bile! Well they beat the orks in the end didnt they :) anyway thats all in the past, they are an upstanding codex chapter now. Ahem now if you will excuse me I have some business to attend to. *runs away to fiddle with genome* Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/143154-master-kree-of-the-crimson-guard/#findComment-1658518 Share on other sites
Heru
... going by the picture in How to Paint Space Marines (also seen in that Lexicanum link) the yellow side should be metallic yellow (ie a Gold). This is especially obvious in How to Paint Space Marines where just below the Crimson Guard picture is the Skull Bearers who are in non-metallic yellow (ie they don't have a metallic gold sheen while the Crimson Guard's Gold side does). This is especially obvious in How to Paint Space Marines where just below the Crimson Guard picture is the Skull Bearers who are in non-metallic yellow (ie they don't have a metallic gold sheen while the Crimson Guard's Gold side does). I was going purely on the BOLS book where normal marines are in red/yellow armour and the terminators (and I presume 1st company/command squads etc.) in red/gold. I put Kree in yellow and red for the same reason i put him in a fairly standard non-adorned and much less chapter master style termi suit. Its a sort of self imposed pennance (and it was cheaper... ^_^ ). The rest of the squad are in gold if you would like to see them  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/143154-master-kree-of-the-crimson-guard/#findComment-1659148 Share on other sites
Solid Zaku
Oh, that's fine then, as I recall that the lot of them are in red/gold. *hums a few bars from Iron Man* Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/143154-master-kree-of-the-crimson-guard/#findComment-1659487 Share on other sites
GAR
Very cool to see someone else doing CG. I started mine last year and have been kinda busy with other things so not a lot of progress on them. Link to my WIP thread. I included my paint recipes if you are interested. http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.p...=116312&hl= I think you are off to a great start! Keep it up!! Grinshanks
I gotta say i LOVE the hammerhead on the forcehammer! It goes well with bulk of terminator armour (i always felt normal forcehammers were a bit....puny lol!) frootbat
Well I'm glad people like the hammer I just kinda hacked it out of a lump of dried green stuff. I sort of see it like homer simpsons curry tasting spoon "Look its the hammer... They say he carved it himself... Out of a better hammer." @GAR: Your marines look ace by the way but I think I'm going to stick to the yellow and save the gold for veteran/speicial stuff. I am kind of torn between which influence to gun for; the late roman look or the knightly look hmmm. How far have you got whith the fluff for them? GAR
I have most it jotted down somewhere. but the jist of it is they are Roman, highly disciplined and very adaptable. I know the adaptable part is anti-codex and counter to the guidelines Robutte what's his face laid out, but I really like the idea of adopting the tactics that are useful and incorporating them into tactics. The core principle was to have each company have a companay commander who directed each companies tactics, so some would function like Blood angels or raven Guard with lots of assault oriented troops, while others may function as Space woplves with lots of options within the squad. The goal was to have a single army that could use any codex, instead of having multiple armies, I would have one massive vanilla ( insert chapter flavor) and go. Since this was my plan, I wanted something not commonly seen or used and the Crimson Guard looked very eye catchy and had no existing fluff. Insert Roman theme and their assimilation of enemy tactics and you have an interesting army good for anything. Of course in games, you have to pick one codex to use and follow its rules, I am not suggesting rewriting the rules so I can pick and choose units. My objective was to pick a codex and then pick and choose Crimson guard units to meet the list requirments. I went with the gold and red because I like how bright it stood out. They are very eye catching and easy to paint. I am not a fan of the yelow because I think yellow is a difficult color to get to looking good and it looks too much like Howling Griffons, which have a red and yellow quater pattern. Also, for my vets or command I would always keep the red, and instead of gold use another color, like Blue for Librarians, Black for Chaplins or reverse the pattern for Techmarines. Vets might have a loincloth or banner poles for each one to distinguish them. I like the idea of lots of banners. I think it adds character. I have not done much with them this year as I have been busy with other more pressing projects and life in general, but after GDLA I would be more than happy to present what I have in mind in a more logical format if you would like. I saw the fluff on BOLS and while I found it interesting, it was not something I had in mind for the CG and do not plan to use any of their fluff at all. Each to their own, I am sure there are folks out there who love what they have done, I just had a different idea is all and I am sticking to it. frootbat
@GAR: Thats fair enough if I had already come up with a whole concept for the Crimson Guardians before I read the Macharian Campighn book I might very well feel the same way. But to be fair to the Fly Lords it is only one chapter in the, erm, chapters history and they specified very little else about the chapters origins/doctrine beyond their desperate time during the crusade. So you could still easily incorporate that stuff into anything you have already got whithout losing anything (not that I'm telling you you should). Also I would like to see your stuff on them when you get the chance. I am just finishing off the rest of the terminators in red/gold not as nice a paint job as on GAR's but I'll post them up here in the next couple of days, see what everyone thinks. Medwayman
Nice rich glossy red. I also like the Imperial eagle on the head of the hammer. So the enemies have a nicely recognizable imprint after being smitten. I love BOLS, those guys somehow always get all the skinny on things. One of these days I am going to have to run over to Austin to play with these guys. I live in Houston and Austin is a 2 1/2 - 3 hour drive from here. I know there are a couple of friends of mine who would like to head over some weekend and get in on a big game or tourny. I look forward to seeing your terminators! As an extra thought, one of the things I founf useful with shouldpads and other odd shpaed things is to get a scriber. I picked one up at Hobby lobby. What it is is a diamond carbide tipped pen that is used by aircraft modelers to add panel lines to planes. I used mine for some of my models to get the crossed axes looking good. First thing take pencil and draw the design on the shoulder pad. Then follow the lines with the scriber. Clean, prime and then you have a clearly visible crossed axe to paint in. It makes thing much easier if your freehand is not super steady, or if you are like me and are just lazy. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/143154-master-kree-of-the-crimson-guard/#findComment-1662340 Share on other sites
