My First Post and I need some help

Well first I would like to say hi to everyone here. I have been reading and admiring a lot of the work you have all been posting and wanted to do some posting as well. I am a long time Imperial Fist player and happen to still be in love with them. However, I took a bit of a break and came back with the desire to try something different as far as painting went. I am not much into green stuff, though I have been learning and conversions tend to take me a bit of time.

I was looking around the internet and came across http://members.iinet.net.au/~crismate/gallery/warmongers.htm

I attribute this site to inspiring me with my color scheme and would like to suggest you all to looking at some of the other work, its pretty awesome.

So the images included are two of the four Masters of the Chapter, the other two are on their way. The other pictures are my converted (though kinda easily) Chapter Master.

The colors are easy, with little to no mixing. Scorpion Green for the green, with no highlights, and Enchanted blue with a very watered down and thin Ice Blue. Lots of Chaos Black, Mithril Silver, Skull white (again with no highlights) and Blood red and Scab Red for the reds with a fiery orange highlight. I used to highlight my Imps all to heck but I decided to go with lining and natural shadows to help bring out the models colors. Oh, and Brazen Brass and Shinning gold for the goldy-brassy parts.

I need some help. I don't know what to name these guys. I have been thinking of it for a while and can't come up with anything. So, along with any and all Comments and Criticism please suggest a name and even a badge for these nameless warriors. Oh, and ideas for bases because green won't work imo and neither will snow so any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks again and I'm happy I finally have stuff to post for you all! Now its off to paint and watch GSP later tonight!

Thanks again everyone!

This is a very sharp looking job you've done so far with a very nice scheme. I like quartered schemes to begin with and these shades of blue and green work well together.

When you start with a color scheme and are in need of a name, you can go anywhere. Personally I have a theme or name and work from there in most cases for the sick number of DIYs that I've drawn up (most will never see the table). You've not gone down that road however. War Mammoths is a worthy name and a mammoth head or skull would make a good chapter symbol for a chapter with that name. The only problem I see with that name is the prominent wing motif on a number of the figures in your gallery. Wings don't say "mammoths" to me. Given the figures you've chosen (with the extra wings iconography) I'd be more inclined to consider names with an avian feel. Look at terms like raptors, claws, talons, eagles, hawks, etc... Before the NFL pi$$ed me off, I was a huge Seattle fan and had the design for a chapter called the Seahawks* using a very similar scheme. It might be worth a thought or two to go the bird route although the wings could be explained away as being from the imperial eagle.

* yes, I know it's hokey but they were to be in the same Founding as my Sunhawks and when the Emperors Tarot was consulted for their names, the two chapters ended up with these two linked names. ;)

Welcome to this most excellent site!

As for the name ... you just reversed the colors of the Warmongers?

I did a thesaurus search for "warmonger". Come to find it's not a single word. So it was "War monger". Well that's no good so I checked "Monger" and came up with "dealer, hawker, merchant, peddler, trader, vender"

(The) War Dealers

(The) Wardealers

(The) Hawks of War

(The) Merchants of Death ;)

Article not necessary.

Anyways ... I really like the paint work you have done. I'd like to see some line troops or a vehicle when you get the chance. Good luck with the name!

so far and so very good!

as for the name, the best way by far is to come up with a history. even if its just a very short three line history of where they are based and what thats like etc. from there its very easy to find a name to match. much easier than coming up with the name and then trying to fit a history to it.

good luck!

phill

Mammoth Turtles?

They could be a siege chapter, they attack slowly but do really big damage?

I dunno, that's just my idea. I like your beard guy. I just used the same model differently, I gave the hammer to a marine to use as a generic ccw, and I'm gonna give the master a sword.

New pics are up of a dread and LR in progress, the chapter master is more or less finished and I posted my first regular trooper (who was actually the first model I painted with the color scheme)

I have also included a few shots of part of my imp fists!

Also I was wondering what people thought of the checker patterns on the chapter master. I like the green and blue together but the white is just much more vivid. Any who sorry for the picture quality I'll be trying to fix that!

I have also been thinking, given the iconography on the models of something like The Lions of Heaven, or Imperial Lions, something with Lion in it, and who knows, make it a D.A. successor chapter. Which brings me to my next question. If not Dark Angels the only other chapter I could think they would succeed from would be the Ultramarine chapter (just given the colors) unless you guys have any other ideas (I'm not a huge Ultramarine fan).

Oh, and keep the suggestions coming. I am thinking of doing a ruined city + sand base, so ruined stones and streets with sand. Any thoughts?
