asmodai650
I tried searching, but it is a weird thing to try to search. Basically what I'm wondering is when exactly did the Sons of Horus / Black Legion, World Eaters, Death Guard, Thousand Sons, and Emperors Children change to their current paint schemes? I've just started reading Galaxy in Flames, so I haven't gotten that far into the books yet to know when they changed. I'm wanting to build a Undivided Chaos force, but not sure if I want to use the Heresy colors, or current schemes. Zeller
(Going off memory so *hands grain of salt*) Black Legion: I believe the BL changed their scheme after their primarch, Horus, fell in combat. If I recall correctly, it was Abaddon, being the next in line as commander of the BL who decided the legion would wear black armor as a remembrance of the loss the chapter had taken. It was something to that extent. I think the 3.5 Edition Chaos Marine codex page describing Abaddon actually makes mention of such event. Death Guard: The Death Guard as you know are dedicated to Nurgle. As such it's not that they changed their armor color, the 'nurgleness' simply mutated, corroded, and otherwise weathered their armor beyond recognition. Emperor's Children: From what I read in Fulgrim, the marines began their physical surgical alterations after the battle in the Slaaneshi temple; I'm sorry I don't recall the planet. I assume that considering the rather disturbing change in the legions character after this engagment also detailed in the book, each marine would experiment with colors other personal alterations in their quest to achieve perfection. World Eaters: They changed their scheme after the Heresy. I do not know the reason why other than to further show their dedication to Khorne. Thousand Sons: Again, I apologize as I do not know why they changed their scheme. I'd think it would be fair to suggest that they too changed their armor to further show their dedication to Tzeetnch. *offers a few more grains of salt* If it's any help:Lexicanum Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/143530-when-did-the-legions-change-their-paint-schemes/#findComment-1662948 Share on other sites

Lion in the Stars
IIRC, the Ksons armor color changed when the Rubric happened, the magic permanently stained their armor blue, instead of the red they were before. There's a line in one of the heresy novels (don't remember which one) about the World Eaters being so bloodspattered a Luna Wolf wondered why they didn't just paint their armor red to begin with. Lord Antharis
Word Bearers changed shortly before the heresy officially began, just before they sent a massive battleship to Macragge Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/143530-when-did-the-legions-change-their-paint-schemes/#findComment-1668556 Share on other sites
