Magnus Thane
Thought as much, thanks for the quick response. Additional cost per mini or squad? I still haven't played using the new codex and before i assemble my newly bought CSM box (for the icons) i'm curious if anything regarding the marks (not icons) changed. What is better Icon and/or Mark? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/143834-marks-of-chaos/#findComment-1666590 Share on other sites
Senseilord Ashahara
icon conveys the mark. Cult troops dont need one. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/143834-marks-of-chaos/#findComment-1666610 Share on other sites
Seahawk
To explain that much better, buying an icon for a squad gives them all that mark. Squads can only buy icons. Characters buy marks instead of icons. There isn't a difference between the two for the effect it gives. However, if the squad's icon gets killed they lose the benefits of the mark, as they lose the mark. If the character dies, well, he takes his mark with him. Buying an icon for a squad also allows you to summon daemons, as they can't appear if there are no icons. However, if an icon is in a transport it's still usable now. Just read up on the codex. You weren't talking about cult troops at all, but to expand that too they don't necessarily need one. They all have their patron's mark already. Buying an icon for cult troops just allows them to summon daemons too. chillin
Daemon princes, chaos lords, sorcerors, chosen, terminators, possessed, chaos space marines, bikers, raptors, and havocs. - chosen, termi's, possessed, csm, bikers, raptors, and havocs can have icons, not marks. Seahawk
An icon gives the mark, silly. Hence, they can take it. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/143834-marks-of-chaos/#findComment-1666675 Share on other sites
the jeske
not icons give them effects like +1T or +1A . cult units have marks . Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/143834-marks-of-chaos/#findComment-1666718 Share on other sites
Seahawk
Incredible. Icon of Khorne "All models in the unit, except independent characters joining or leaving the squad, have the Mark of Khorne." (for example) That's kind of inescapable wording there. Icons give marks. Although the Icon of Chaos Glory doesn't give any mark, you're right, only the ability to reroll. Cult troops come with their patron mark included in the points; the marks they have give the exact same effect as the icons other units can carry, because they are the exact same mark. chillin
Wasn't disagreeing w/ you that icons give the "mark". My point in making note of the difference between a true mark and the icon giving the "mark" is that the icon can be taken away (icon bearer being killed) then the squad loses the "mark". Thought a new player might need to know the difference between the two. But I didn't say enough to really make myself understood in my 1st reply, my bad. ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/143834-marks-of-chaos/#findComment-1666768 Share on other sites
