Starks333
Well this is an effective way to pump out freehand icons for shoulder pads ***NOTE you want to keep it to minimal short strokes, trying to paint too much shape at once will result in failure, paint as if the entire freehand is a bunch of overlapping lines I start with scorched brown, many colours will work i simply chose to use brown 1. start by using the centre point of the fist to centre your freehand on the shoulder pad, this will allow you to keep the symbol centered and in the same place on multiple pads 2. begin to fill in the bottom shape to establish width of the freehand 3. add spikes to the sides, when doing this ensure your brush has a fine point and not a lot of paint on the brush otherwise the points will end up round(you can always fix it, but thats a pain) 4. after this i do the thumb, i angle out and back in like a backwards 7...then add in the fingers one by one and proceed to fill in the shape 5. i take my red gore, and start giving the freehand shape by not covering the entire surface, shaping the fingers, the thumb, and the palm and wrist....the dark colour only needs to exist between the fingers, thumb and palm and palm and wrist...you dont necessarily need it around the edges of the freehand 6. i then mix a highlight(i added bronzed flesh) and paint on where i deem highlights need be 7. i take red gore and thin it down, and lightly glaze over part of the highlights to bring them down and back into the red gore 8. since scorched brown isnt as dark when dried as in this demo, i then mix it with purple to further shade areas, mostly between the fingrs and palm, and if i need further definition in areas http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y218/Starks3333/Tutorial/BnC%20Tuts/TUTforfreehandcopy.jpg Result on some minis:(will get a single focussed shot later, but this is for the group) this took about...40mins to an hour to do all 6, and weather over them http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y218/Starks3333/40k/warseer%20log/100_5272.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/143853-crimsonimperial-fist-freehand-icon-tutorial/ Share on other sites
