Lucius the Eternal

Hi All,

I finally reclaimed my version of Lucius from the Belfast GW store last week and thought to post an image of him here for your comments and criticisms. This figure was painted after the first possessed Marine so there are likely to be a few points with the levels of highlighting - but still let me know if you have any suggestions how I can improve.

I painted Lucius to represent him in his old legion colours rather than black as GW have him in the catalogue and think that it makes the figure look more interesting.

I understand that some don't like the mold of Lucius, but I found it a pleasure to paint - albeit a little tricky in places. I adjusted the position of the whip and I think that it improves upon the figure.

Anyway, let me know what you think?

Thanks,

make his face like the jokers and paint why so serious on his base :tu:

I believe that what doesn't kill you makes you... stranger. He would need a knife, not a whip and a sword. The Joker wasn't into bondage. Well, at least what we know about him. ;)

On a serious note, I really don't like the flesh color on the skin. When I envision Lucius's armor, I envision it as the traditional Emperor's Children colors. All of it, not just parts of it. The pink on the robe is nice. It reminds me a lot of John's Emperor's Children which HE SOLD ON EBAY. (The EC army from a WD a few years ago. Shame on you for selling it, John...)

I also don't like Red with Purple and Pink. It just... doesn't mix, in my mind. The Purple flesh is kinda neat, but I think it could have been pulled off better. I would personally do a normal flesh color, then just do a bunch of thin washes with Leviathan Purple around the eyes, and in Lucius's case, the scars.

Thanks for the criticism - this really helps me. I painted this figure before the release of the GW washes and used inks instead. It was very difficult to get the flesh colours right as I wasn't able to dampen down the shine from the inks. However I'm fairly pleased with the results as the skin tone blending came together quite well. I chose the skin tone for the trapped faces to reinforce the suffering from Lucius' previous opponents.

Thanks for the ideas in terms of the armour and skin tones. I think that I'll have to give them a go. What colour would you suggest for Lucius' whip?

In a lot of ways this figure is a transition one for me - one where I'm trying to experiment more and get used to brighter highlights and contrast. It scored in the mid-range in the recent GW painting competition.

Your comments will really help me to become a better painter. ;)
