twigs
there is absolutely no mention of two-handed weapons in the new rules, and i am trying to find any pros or cons to using them Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/143924-two-handed-weapons/ Share on other sites
SeattleDV8
the only effect would be in CC . you wouldn't get an extra attack with a two-handed weapon. Captain Malachi
I thought the only point to a two-handed weapon was that you could only have one, rather than two like you can with one-handed weapons. twigs
damn, i was at least hoping for some bonus other than additional attacks Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/143924-two-handed-weapons/#findComment-1667819 Share on other sites
DarKHaZZ13
... 2 handed weapons are usually 2 handed cus they give you a bonus like added streangth (depending on weapon obviously) and the best bonus is you cant have 2 2handed weapons :( Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/143924-two-handed-weapons/#findComment-1667836 Share on other sites

nighthawks
A two-handed weapon alone, or with a single handed weapon doesn't grant you an extra attack in close combat. A two handed weapon with 2 one handed weapons (a' la CSM std loadout of bolter, bolt pistol, and close combat weapon) would allow you the added attack unless more than one of the three was a special close combat weapon, or only the 2-handed weapon was a special CCW, in which case you would have to use it and, being two handed, you would never get the +1 A. A model may have a maximum of 1 two handed weapon and 2 one handed weapons. rarely are they allowed all three (lousy chaos gods...) the benefit of a two handed weapon is either its range over a pistol if it is a shooting weapon or a particularly special CCW ability. Dourine
Quick correction to the above poster. Models can have any combination of wargear they are given in the codex. However, for most pre-5th codices, you are able to kit your commanders out with wargear, the wargear sections (i think) say you can either have a one handed weapon and a two handed weapon, or two one-handed weapons, not a two h-weap and two 1 hand-weap Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/143924-two-handed-weapons/#findComment-1669246 Share on other sites
nighthawks
Dourine, you are right about the armoury selection rules, and there are a lot of posts and topics from the past and ongoing that debate this. HOWEVER: C:CSM have one 2-handed and two 1-handed CCWs as base kit. it's also easy to dig up other examples where the combo is legal, if only currently. I wouldn't expect the C:CSM loadout to chnage anytime soon, though. so the post is legit. JamesI
Actually it is possible to have more than 1 two handed weapon and more than 3 total weapons. Chaos lord, deamon weapon (2 handed weapon), combi-bolter (2 handed weapon) and bolt pistol. Or Blood Angels captian, pair of lightning claws (2 one handed weapons), plasma pistol (1 handed weapon) and stormbolter (two hadned weapon) are both legal combos under current rules. JamesI
I was just pointing out that no such rule exists saying you can only carry 3 weapons or only 1 two handed weapon. Brother Drakk
When wargear is already given, there may be circumstances where one model has more than 3 weapons. However, if you're gearing up a captain or vet sarg in the C:SM, you're restricted to one 2 handed and one 1 handed or... another combination that i can't recall. So there is a restriction to an extent. But if you're already given more gear than you're allowed, you just keep what you have. Rule stated in the armory section in C:SM Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/143924-two-handed-weapons/#findComment-1670145 Share on other sites
nighthawks
agreed there are no game-wide rules limiting models to a certain number of weapons, be they shooting or close combat. though it is rare just to see 2 singles and a double on a single model. there is a thread going on right now about how to deal with 2+ special CCWs on a model with 3+ CCW total. if anyone has an insight, I for one would welcome it. (rules on P. 42 are a good place to start looking...) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/143924-two-handed-weapons/#findComment-1670172 Share on other sites
Mordekiem
I agree with Nighthawks. There is no universal rule in the rulebook limiting models to 2 weapons. Some codexes have such rules in their wargear section but it only applies to that codex. if you want examples you can find them in nearly every codex that has been released since 4th edition came out. And even some from before. The universal rule that models could only have two weapons was in the 3rd edition rulebook. And I believe some codexes still overrode it with specific rules or characters.
