Korloth Darkwolf
I'm posting this for some feedback. Its the first model i'm painting with the new washes and also will be only the 3rd model i have painted in the last ten years (i had a long hiatus and only got back into the hobbylast summer) since most of my projects have been more the sculpting and conversion kind recently. This will be the basis for the colour scheme for the whole 3rd company. Every model will have at least 1 minor conversion and the entire company except the assault marines will be robed. Every marine will use a sword shoulder pad from the vets pack and will have the company badge behind the chapter symbol and be over a black field. I'm also planning on free hand heraldry on the robes as well as a free hand squad number. So please give useful critic and feedback. its my first time with the new washes and i am also very rusty in the painting department so please feel free to give any advice. Sorrythe images a bit grainy but its the missus who is the photographer. Korloth Darkwolf
Well its 15 coats of paint so far. A chaos black base coat (painted on as i have never spray undercoated anything) 6 very thin coats of graveyard earth. The first one is almost see through. 3 coats of 2:1 graveyard earth:bleached bone 2 coats of gryphonne sepia wash to the recesses. (ONLY to the recesses - unlike inks i have found you really have to place the washes) 2 coats of straight bleached bone, leaving the wash visible in the recesses (The second coat is slightly smaller in area than the first) 2 highlights of 2:1 bleached bone: skull white (again the 2nd coat is a lot smaller) I'm trying to improve my blending skills (something that i have never attempted on model before.) the last figure i painted is Krom in my sig and thats the first one i have painted since 2005 and only the third since 1998. It seems my degree, time in the navy, two kids and starting my own business stopped me from gaming for a while. I've decided to get back into it since last summer with two whole DA companies (RW and 3rd) plus some pre heresy stuff - including a DA baneblade and Lion El'Jonson sculpt (see sig) and i will try to learn 5th edition. the last game i played was still using 2nd ed rules. EDIT: Spelling and missing half a sentance! kanan
nice work there. ;) i also like your idea for heraldry to be represented on the models. real life can make it hard to have time for the hobby but W40K is something you can always pick up when things quiet down. ive been busy with other projects myself so i havent been able to give much time to my Dark Angels but i look forward to adding some more updates to my WIP in september.look forward to seeing more from you. p.s. oh and its cool to see someone else doing a Dark Angel 3rd Battle Company. ;) takecare Battle-Brother Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/144070-dark-angel-3rd-company-test-mini/#findComment-1670240 Share on other sites
Korloth Darkwolf
A bit more work done. The back of the robes needs its highlights done to it, I've been working on the arms. This mini will be armed with bolter and bolt pistol. The bolter will be held across the body but pointing at the deck and the mini will be sighting along the pistol arm. The shoulder pad is missing the highlights on the green and black as well as the wings of the chapter symbol. The body needs another wash on the red as there is a tad too much orange in the highlights. Also I like a darker red to the weapons. there wil also be a couple of grenades or puches on the model when finished. Comments appreciated as always. Korloth Darkwolf
Please excuse the double post but I had an update and couldn't wait for someone to post before me! Front Picture The head and arms aren't fixed permanent yet. i have lotsof work still to do on all the armour as it's only basecoat. I tacked on the arms to get a reaction to the pose. I plan on all the marines having something in the pose that isn't the usual "must hold bolter two-handed" pose. I still need to paint the whole bolter arm and finish the reds and the edges of the robes as they are untidy as well as the green armour. Side Picture Still need to finish the pad but its getting there. The bolt pistols needs lots of work and the rear of the robes and pack also need doing. Comments please as always. the wolf of the end
On the picture from the side(left side of the marine) there is a transition from bone to red on the same piece of cloth....why? and ....Mouldlines BUT the colours in the robes look great. you just need to create some depth in the green, it looks a little flat Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/144070-dark-angel-3rd-company-test-mini/#findComment-1674034 Share on other sites
Korloth Darkwolf
Its not the same piece of cloth. If you look at the DA vets boxicture on GW's site you'll see that the bottom robes are in several sections on this body and is painted a similar way. The mould line for the that body is the join between two sections of the lower robes. The green is just base coat at present, no highlights or washes on it at all as of yet. Korloth Darkwolf
An update now i have some time to myself! Its been a while since i was working on any minis and will get cracking on this one now. Anyhow here's some updates on my test mini (its a new torso after some experimenting with my new washes and foundations made the other one a little colourful). Lots of work still to do on the greens, touching up some colours and the markings but should be finished over the weekend. Comments as always. Korloth Darkwolf
A few more pictures. Comments appreciated as always. I have tried a bit of freehand for the first time ever so be gentle and tips would be great! Still got a few bits to do. The backpack for one and a bit of work to the right arm. A few metallic bits to do as well. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/144070-dark-angel-3rd-company-test-mini/#findComment-1747768 Share on other sites
