5th Ed. Counter Attack Rule

The wording on the new counter-attach rule is confusing...

Say you have a chaplain attached to a command squad with chapter banner. In a turn where you are assaulted, would you get to re-roll misses? Would the same apply to furious assault? The rule says, "exactly as if they had assaulted."

Thanks for clearing this up.

Reading the entire wording of the "Counter-Attack" universal special rule, it does not appear to be the intent of Counter-attack to allow anything but +1 Attacks when charged. The wording is very specific and says "If the test is successful, all models in the unit get the +1 assault bonus to their attacks, as if they too had assaulted that turn." To me, this doesn't leave room for any bonuses other than +1 attacks.

Obviously, the change is made because all assaulted units essentially get the 4th edition counter-attack rule as the standard ruleset.

Also, this should probably be moved to the Official Rules forum.

Yeah, that seems pretty clear to me too. Just adding my opinion to add weight to ObsidianIchor's solution. The fragment "exactly as if they too had assaulted that turn," is a corollary of the "Defenders React" rule (pg 34, BRB), added to explain why they'll get the bonus attacks.

Really, it should have read "when a unit with this rule makes a Defenders React movement as a result of an enemy charge..." and then continue as normal. Then they also could have left out the exception for when the Counter-attack rule cannot be used.
