KeithGatchalian
According to Phil Kelly the other Space Marine codices will not have access to the "wargear" in the new Codex: Space Marines. I believe this will apply to Space Wolves for wargear, but no vehicles/units that our book says to take from CSM. No 3+ storm shields then. Dark Bjoern
Why not? Do we have the description how a SS works in our ´dex? If not we use the C:SM as a reference. kanaellars
Does this have any basis other than as a random thought? From tournament sources I have already been told to use the Codex: Space Marines entries for weapons that have been updated/changed (The Assault Cannon being a main one), so I plan on using the new Storm Shields as well. Spacefrisian
Yep we have to use our own summary, Goes for smokelaunchers as well. Also nice to note is that the assault cannon in our dex states to look in the rule book for additional rules. kanaellars
Yakface has an extensive report from LAGD. Yakface LAGD report I just have, and I have finally reached a a decision. IM DONE. Until the Space Wolves get a new codex, Im done. Games Workshop gets not another penny for any of thier systems. Last straw. Not only do we have only half a codex... Not only is our codex over a decade old... Now our wargear... THE EXACT SAME <DELETED BY THE INQUISITION>ING WARGEAR... is inferior. Yay. Yea, Im done. Marek Grimfang
I think you will be happy with the new SM Codex in October. YOu will be able to make a SW oriented list using that barring some characteristic features. Asault Squads without Jump Packs now can have Rhinos. kanaellars
No. I wont be happy. I wont be buying the new Space Marine codex. I refuse to use another list to make a Wolf 'themed' army. Mock me or disagree with me or do what you like... I love 40K, I also play Fantasy and LoTR. I am done with all of them. Done. Not one more penny. I am done with them until we get a new codex and some things get cleared up concerning their codex and the SM codex...but this doesn't seem highly likely. Glad I enjoy playing Tau. As much as I'd love for that to happen I don't see it coming. In regards to the wargear question, will it specifically state in the upcoming C:SM that only vanilla marines get the 3+ save for the Storm Shield because it says in our codex to refer to the wargear section of C:SM for item rules and descriptions. Which to me means that I look at that codex for the rules on the weapons I use. From what I gathered from reading the post on Dakka is that Kelly said they won't update the other codexes with FAQ's after the release of C:SM which really shouldn't impact us since our dex refers to C:SM. We're actually lucky in a way to have a 3rd edition dex which relies heavily on C:SM instead of the Templars and Dark Angels which are stand alone books. kanaellars
The rumor going around is that Phil Kelly from the dev team is saying that none of the non-codex xhapters will get the new wargear changes, in order to make the vanilla marines 'special'. In other words, in addition to forgetting about the wolves... Games Workshop is just going on and kicking us in the balls and spitting on us. Valhalla
I've noticed this hasn't shown up on BoLS wrap up of Gamesday so I don't know how much credit I'd give it just yet. Grimmwulf
Ahhh in Russ' Name take it like a Wolf ;) We will still kick every other Chapter's ass, no matter which inv save their storm shields give them. kanaellars
Ok, screw Phil Kelly. I have been doing some looking. Space Wolves Codex, 2000 edition (the latest printing I know of of our 3rd ed codex), Page 14. and I quote... (accent added by myself) "IMPORTANT: Space Wolves may NOT pick from the Armoury in Codex: Space Marines and must take all of thier equipment from the list below. A number of entries are basically the same as thier counterpart in the standard Space Marines Armoury and, in that case, we've noted this by writing thier entries in italics below. There is a brief description of how these items work on the summary page later in this codex but you should refer to the Wargear section in Codex: Space Marines for a full description." So screw any idea of my not using every single bonus that I can out of that book. Hell, I might just go out and get myself 2 or 3 more squads of terminators with Lightning Claws and Storm Shields... just because those damned smurfs can't do that, and they can stuff thier Storm Shields up thier arses. Icewolf
I fail to see why GW would make the same piece of wargear funtion differently in 2 diferent codexes as they would surly relise that the peple with the inferior version would make more fuss than it is worth and unless you use storm sheilds it should not affect you or we can just drown out GW playing around with more ale Icewolf Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/144257-bad-news/#findComment-1672219 Share on other sites

kanaellars
I keep looking at it... from what I can see, the only way that they can take the new Storm shield and such away from us is a new codex.... So if they really want, they can pull thier fingers out thier arses and finish our codex if they dont want us to have the shields. dietrich
It hurts in some ways, but in other ways, we actually come out better for not having a new codex. Access to 2 PF/PW, 2 PP, and a special weapon in GH packs Reduced wargear cost for 1 wound models (15 pt PF vs 25 for SM) Terminators with Runic Charms and master-crafter heavy weapons Wolf Guard with combi-weapons - in TDA or PA Retinue for ICs (if you want) BS5 Ven Dreads with multi-meltas in a pod Sure, we don't get some of the snazzy rules, like Rites of Battle (which SM are losing), or Litanies of Hate (which SM are keeping). But, we're still pretty dead hard. With the rumored Drop Pod Assault rule, a podding Wolf army may again be a thing to fear. Plus, Pods now transport 12 (rumor), so you can put 10 GHs and a WGPL and an IC in a single pod! WGBL w/ TDA, Cyclone Missile Launcher (CML), 5 WGBGs w/ 2 CMLs and 3 combi-weapons Wolf Lord w/ TDA, Storm Shield, Frost Blade, Wolf Tooth Necklace, and 5 WGBG w/ 2 CMLs or ACs and 3 combi-weapons Just imagine the fun of a WGBL or WL with TDA, Runic Charm, Wolf Tooth Necklace, Wolf Pelt, Storm Shield, and Thunderhammer! Sure, he strikes last, but he gets a lot of S8 attacks (hitting on 3+) and a 3+ invul! And if he wounds a MC, they strike simultaneous in the next round. I'm thinking of trying a Wolf Lord with Frost Blade, Storm Shield, and a Bike to join my BC bikers. I'm looking forward to a new codex, but there's plenty of nasty things to use now, have fun while it lasts. I'm thinking 14 BCs, a WGPL, and an IC in a Land Raider Redeemer! Valhalla
Dietrich I've been using that wolf lord combo for a while now and its just nasty, though mine is attached to blood claws in a land raider. Kanaellars For me its pretty cut and dry, anything in our wargear section in italics i use C:SM for the rules. Don't know how you can read otherwise.
