WIP - SM - Luna Wolves

I've got a decent amount of detail work left to do but I'm happy with what I'd call a little above average base coat.

With the new marine dex on the horizon I started working on some new figs.

Thanks.

The single skull chest resembles the Mk IV or whatever it's called armor.

These were originally intended to be the test figs but I liked the way they were going so they made the 'cut' :tu:

I was happiest with the rhino. The top hatch isn't glued and can be subbed out for a razor back or a whirlwind.

Hmm, it's a nice clean white, perhaps too white for Luna Wolves, their colour has always been a little off-white, in some of the pics it's even more pale green than off-white. If you wanted to consider giving these guys that pale green tone then looking at GWs new washes might work, thin them a little further to make them a glaze and alternate green & black layers to get a tinted off-white grey/green colour. I'd aim for a lighter and more even version of what you've got on the backpack of the guy in the 3rd pic.

Still, white is a striking colour on the table top so that's cool too.

I would however urge that you look at the ribbing (between the joints i.e. behind the knee or at the elbow) and the piping (i.e. on the helmets) and consider painting those a different colour to white. Most folks use black or metals, I think black would look good on your figures myself. At the very least I'd give them more shading (black ink or wash) to add some depth to them.

The Rhino is very nice though, I wouldn't do much to it (beyond tint it grey/green if you do your Marines)...

Sons of Horus article

My apologies it was the Sons of Horus who were green, not the Luna Wolves. Same Legion, different name, different colour scheme. Being old & senile my memory tends to run these things together...I still maintain that the Luna Wolves were off-white rather than a clean white however.

I was about to say that the green/grey color was after they changed their name to sons of horus.

The Luna wolves are white white white not off white, read the 1st couple of HH novels.

BL, SoH & LW's fanboy right here :)

I've read them but I don't recall anywhere in them that they were 'white white', I'd still call the off-white colour 'white' if I had to use a single word description for it, but it's not a pure white. I'd take my cue on their colour from the Index Astartes article which shows them as being a pale grey, akin to the old Ghost Grey Citadel colour, Astronomicon Grey might be a reasonable modern equivalent, not sure, haven't used it in any decent size to tell...

Check the Luna Wolf about halfway down the first post...

I may try a little green in with the mix. I glazed them with about 50/50 split of the new black wash and future floor wax. They originally looked 'dirty' so i blended them up to the pure white the best I could.

For the next batch I'm going to try to get them to look more like the round port on the rhino.

I may try the suggestion with adding a little green to the mix and see what that does.

Maybe first glaze with the black, 2nd with the greenish on the edges of the black to get a paler fade?
