Sternguard Veterans

It's been a long time coming, but I have finally assembled my Deathwatch Kill Team. And with the new rules for Pedro Kantor, these models will be a wonderful addition to my planned Crimson Fists army as 'counts as' Sternguard Veterans.

Left to right: Ultramarine, Iron Hand, Mortifactor, and Black Templar.

Left to right: Space Wolf, Imperial Fist, White Scar, and Flesh Tearer.

Ultramarine: I wanted to use at least one marine taking a knee in the squad, and because of their level headed nature, I figured that an Ultramarine would make a good candidate for this. I equipped him with the cool Company Champion to represent his elite status and fancy the model up a bit. The right arm shoulder pad is a molded plastic Ultramarines shoulder pad from the command squad kit.

Iron Hand: This model's bionic legs and bionic implants symbolize the Iron Hands' revulsion for the weakness of flesh. The auspex symbolizes the chapter's affinity for technology. The right arm shoulder pad is a molded metal Iron Hands shoulder pad.

Mortifactor: You can't see it in this pic, but I used the power fist with the skull on its surface and an arm with a skull on the top of the left hand to represent the Mortifactors' obsession with skulls and death. The screaming Deathwatch head works nicely with the pointing power fist arm. The right arm shoulder pad is the molded metal Death Company shoulder pad with the unadorned skull.

Black Templar: The arms, torso, and head are all from the Black Templars sprue. The right arm shoulder pad is a molded plastic Black Templar shoulder pad.

Space Wolf: Originally constructed for my 13th Company army, this model is too cool to be left collecting dust with the rest my lost wolves. The blowing of the horn represents both the Space Wolves' straight forward nature and their barbaric background. The head and torso are from the Space Wolves sprue. The horn is from the plastic Chaos Marrauder sprue. The right arm shoulder pad is a molded metal Space Wolf shoulder pad.

Imperial Fist: Who better to arm with a heavy flamer than an implacable son of Dorn? A Space Marine armed with a heavy flamer is no longer available from GW, so I had to make my own. The heavy flamer backpack, arms, and weapon body are multi-melta bits taken from the plastic Dev sprue. The flamer barrels and gun-sight are taken from the plastic Terminator heavy flamer. The right arm shoulder pad is a molded metal Imperial Fist shoulder pad.

White Scar: To give a nod to the White Scars preference for mobility, this model is running. Also, to symbolize this chapter's barbaric roots and loathing of the Dark Eldar (their primarch disappeared fighting them), this model is carrying the severed elf head trophy from the Dark Elf Cold One Chariot kit. The right arm shoulder pad is a molded metal White Scar shoulder pad.

Flesh Tearer: As a long time Blood Angel player, I had to include a son of Sanguinius in this squad. The torso is plastic Bezerker torso with the bandoleer of bullets across the chest. The Khorne symbol on the belt buckle was shaved off and replaced with a skull. The chain axe is a the Khorne Bezerker aspiring champion bit. The helmet comes from the Black Templar sprue. The right arm shoulder pad is a molded metal Flesh Tearer shoulder pad.

Each model is equipped with grenades and either a holstered bolt pistol or close combat weapon -WYSIWYG.

Not sure why they are all different chapters, but i'm guilty of mixing a few chapters myself
The Deathwatch is comprised of Space Marines seconded from all the different chapters. This is not only a cool idea 'fluff-wise' but it gives playes and opportunity to have some fun creating models from a variety of different chapters.

Nice squad, but why not just use them as DW, they are still legal afterall
The rules and point cost for the Sternguard Vets are better than those for the current Deathwatch Kill Team rules. Also, if one includes Pedro Kantor in one's army, all Sternguard squads count as scoring units. A "true" Deathwatch Kill Team is taken as an HQ choice, so it is not a scoring unit.

I thought including Kantor only allowed a single Stermguard squad to become a scoring unit? I think its in one of the other rumour threads somewhere.

Back on topic those guys are looking good.

Medusa

Very nice Koyote...

Nice conversion for the Heavy flamer, although I will throw in my 2 cents and say that maybe a sally would be a good choice to tote it around. And the Puppy is a nice touch too...

Overall, two thumbs up for all the models. Can't wait to see some paint on them.

Cheers

...Yes, but sadly I do not have a Salammander molded shoulder pad. And thanks to the infinite wisdom of Games Workshop I can no longer purchase a Salammander molded shoulder pad from GW mail order. :)

Based on your comments, I suppose I should have written: "From among the chapters represented by the collection of Space Marine molded shoulder pads that I have available to me at this time, who better to arm with a heavy flamer than an implacable son of Dorn?" :P

If anyone is offering a spare Salammander shoulder pad I will be more than happy to make the requested change. :P
