Apocalypse Lords Command Squad

My Brothers, I am happy to present to you my new command squad...which will immediately become obsolete when the codex comes out. :tu:

However, fear not, it will become an honored tactical squad and continue service for the Emperor.

My WIP thread with the same name can provide a lot of the work up shots.

C&C greatly appreciated!

Cheers,

How did you paint the armor of your xomander?

Here is a step by step breakdown:

1. Basecoat sprayed matte black

2. A very thin coat of 5050 Scorched Earth/Chaos Black

3. A thinned coat of Dark Angels Green

4. 2-3 coats of VMC Bronze

5. Then I mixed VMC Silver with VMC Bronze and did the highlights on the open areas

6. Several thin washes of a brown/black ink

I like the VMC Bronze a lot because it is a paler yellow without the orange component that GW's Bronze has.

Cheers,

The glowing eyes work well on the helmeted marines, but not so sure about the bare-headed one. Probably just me though.

Yeah, it can be a bit of a stretch on the libby. While I was working him up I had this odd conversation in my head:

Trooper 1: Dude, don't make him angry

Trooper 2: How do I know when he's angry?

Trooper 1: Dude, his EYES glow!

<I know, pity me>

So between that idea and the fact that:

1) All the eyes in my army glow except for one

2) I didn't want to work him up and then have him sport some Homer Simpson eyes

Meant that I took a conservative approach to his face and went with something cinematic. I have an upcoming project where I will be pushing myself in the area of painting faces, in particular eyes. However, given that I needed to get this squad done so that I could kick off other things, it meant that I needed to take the path of least resistance...and I still had to fiddle with his eyes quite a bit just to get them to this stage. :D

Anyway, thanx for the comments and I look forward to getting him on the table so he can turn his "angry eyes" on xenos scum and heretics.

Thanks Honda! I like your paintscheme a lot and wondered how you did this.

greetz.

Is that a single Command Squad????

Ah, I see someone counted all the guys, a cookie for the guy from Houston. :)

Yes, it is a single command squad. I painted an extra tactical guy on the assumption that the new codex might not allow two meltas in a command squad. Little did I know that the nature of the command squad would change and that only captains would be able to get them. Sooooo, I'll pull one melta, add the bolter guy, then put a vet sgt with BP/PF, thus becoming my fourth tactical squad.

The spare melta will either find his way into another tactical squad (his armor representing veteran type status) or I may make up three more like him and put them with a captain. This would most likely become an Apocalypse type unit that comes in a drop pod.

I'm glad you guys like the unit. I spent a fair amount of time working on how to make them distinctive, so that they would stand out, but not too divergent looking from my regular scheme. The light bronze seems to work to that effect.

Anyway, I've got lots of interesting stuff lined up for the future as I continue to develop the army for Apocalypse.

Thank you greatly for the C&C, it is really appreciated.

Cheers,
