Master Of Malfeasance X
I had the immense pleasure of using a chaos land raider in an apocalypse where we beat the other team into next week, and some of its weaknesses became apparent. Highlights: Flank marched onto the table and fired everything at a lone obliterator and killed him. Then I had to tell the oblit owner to put him back on the table because I could only fire one weapon. Sigh. Possessed land raider rolls a 3, and then....AND THEN... a 3. Missed. Was the center of attention of a defiler and two obliterators for three turns. In these three turns, it summoned in 2 of my oblits on the personal icon of the sorcerer inside. When my oblits couldn't kill the lone obliterator in front of them with TL plasmaguns, the land raider pivoted on the spot and blazed away with everything. Both lascannons missed and the heavy bolter hit and wounded every time. Oblit saves. Land Raider appears only good at demoralizing opponent, as it can't hit anything to save its life. Come to think of it, it really couldn't shoot much either. The combination of moving/not shooting and not hitting when I did shoot made me think I might as well strip all the guns off it and make it a super rhino. Thoughts? Seahawk
Imagine not using possession with it...and hitting on those wonderful 3's. That's what I do. Really, with the whack to benefits from possession, it's really only good on defilers and vindicators. Anything else only decreases their performance in my experience. Although it is insane that we lost Infernal Device while the loyalists are having their Power of the Machine Spirit upgraded *grumble* Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/144711-chaos-land-raider/#findComment-1677496 Share on other sites
qwertywraith
I have found possessed land raiders to be worth their weight in gold. Yes, moving means you only get to shoot with 1 weapon, true, but always having the option is necessary when pretty well only short range melta weapons can reliably stop you. Besides, when I want to sit and shoot, I'd like to sit and shoot, instead of being shaken all the time. As for you missing all the time: you had a string of bad luck. The 4+ twin-linked roll gives you a 75% chance of hitting so you should do better than you are. In 5th, Possessed Land Raiders are tactical devices. They are bunkers where you hide your troops until you need them. It's like having reserves that come in when you want, where you want AND you can put them back in reserves. Need a scoring unit? That one remaining marine from squad 2 gets in the Raider, and you now have a 240 point scoring AV14 nightmare. Need to storm an enemy objective, this will do the job. Don't compare the chaos Land Raider to the Loyalist ones. Comparing anything to loyalist stuff is probably going to be a terrible idea come September if it's as broken as it sounds like it will be. Lady_Canoness
Possessed Raiders are great! 240pts for a damn-near-certain assault? Sign me up! Then again, our Land Raiders should only ever be considered assault transports for Terminators or Berzerkers - the lascannons are really just gravy now that we lose our infernal device rule. Goodbye to the days when a traitor Land Raider was better than the loyalist counterpart! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/144711-chaos-land-raider/#findComment-1678036 Share on other sites
Kushan Blackrazor
With Land Raiders, the golden rule is Assault First, Shoot Second, as the Jeske said. That being mentioned, I can understand why Possession is nice occasionally. chillin
I don't know that I've ever had a chaos LR be worth all it's pts. I still take them sometimes b/c ......, well, just b/c I have one I guess. I use my twin set of Raiders that way in Apocalypse, both filled with Rubric T-Sons. Leave them in reserve off the board, then use Flank March to nail the enemy in a sensitive objective or two. If the return fire gets hot and heavy, back into the Raider, as even the majority of Apocalyspe armies have a hard time popping a Raider. Meanwhile, the rest of my army gets in position... :( Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/144711-chaos-land-raider/#findComment-1678945 Share on other sites
Zeller
Scoring units inside transports within 3 inches of an objective count as scoring? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/144711-chaos-land-raider/#findComment-1679703 Share on other sites
Kalrik
Scoring units inside transports within 3 inches of an objective count as scoring? Yes. I only play with possessed Land raiders, though I do one more and go LR, Possessed, Havoc Launcher(also twin linked), It cannot be stressed the abilty to shoot with a land raider every turn if you want to is freaking amazing. Possession is tottally worth it. Now as for whats better the new POTMS or Possession, juries out on it, but every game I play my opponent gets frustrated by how hard it is to deal with a possessed land raider.
