Storm Maiden
So I bought a box of Tacitcal Space Marines to begin my work! I have since dubbed them Test Slave 1 through Test Slave 10. I am using a specific method of modifying them.. > I wanted much more dynamic postures for their legs especially, which meant bending/unbending legs here and there. I cannot remember which forum I saw it on, but one person cut the legs up at all the joints, strung them on phone cord (That he found on the side of the road) and then posed them as needed. I had no phone cord that I wasnt using, so I am just green stuffing the joints.... as well as adding their Mourning Sashes. http://s87.photobucket.com/albums/k145/hor...m%20of%20Tears/ So far is the log, although there's only two pictures - Its slow going.... For the base, I cut the top off, and glued a new bottom on. I will fill it with glue/sand and build a little shore that they will be walking out of, filling the rest with clear resin and stuff to be the ocean. Hopefully it looks right. Wish me luck! Nicili
Hey, loving the models, very clean and crisp; especially the eyes. My only piece of my own opinion is your bolters. I know you went for a halved scheme, but on the bolters you end up not seeing enough of the blue, and they end up looking bland because of the black. I say either do some of the lightning scheme you are planning for the black or use a bit of that gold to make the bolter look a bit more finished. Other than that, I'm loving it ;) -Nicili Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/144931-the-storm-of-tears-painting-and-mod-log/#findComment-1679977 Share on other sites
Storm Maiden
I will be adding the lightning to the bolter too. I know what you mean about the blue not being seen! I still have to figure out what color the interior of the lightning is. I had yellow on the original schematic, but maybe other colors, or plain white? One idea I had was the company color inside the lightning bolt - that way you can tell which company he's from from EITHER side. Storm Maiden
Lots of updates! http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k145/horsetuna/Storm%20of%20Tears/marine11.jpg I finished one off to see how he looks. Decent. I have done more work since then though.... http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k145/horsetuna/Storm%20of%20Tears/barn2.jpg I wanted to give my dreadnaught a few 'looks old' things. So barnacles! Sadly, I dropped him and one of the barnacles came off, and I couldnt find it ^_^ I hope they wills tay on now. I may have to start glueing them down.... And of course, a Starfish. I called her Alice: http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k145/horsetuna/Storm%20of%20Tears/starfish.jpg I was thinking of giving the dread a periscope, however, I am not sure how to yet, so for now he's periscopeless. http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k145/horsetuna/Storm%20of%20Tears/marines9.jpg http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k145/horsetuna/Storm%20of%20Tears/dread2.jpg http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k145/horsetuna/Storm%20of%20Tears/marine15.jpg I was going ot use the decals for the white arrows, but I LOST THE SHEET. Gah. So I had to hand paint them. http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k145/horsetuna/Storm%20of%20Tears/sergeant.jpg http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k145/horsetuna/Storm%20of%20Tears/marinedam.jpg http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k145/horsetuna/Storm%20of%20Tears/dreadarm.jpg http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k145/horsetuna/Storm%20of%20Tears/dread-1.jpg Since these pics I've done much better on the lightning - adding highlights and other stuff to them, as well as sharpening them out on the Dreads. you can find more pics at http://s87.photobucket.com/albums/k145/hor...m%20of%20Tears/ But there's just so many! Hope you enjoy. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/144931-the-storm-of-tears-painting-and-mod-log/#findComment-1716470 Share on other sites
Disistablishmentarianism
Nice work with the legs and the scheme is pretty cool. I was going to do something similar with my tacicals, I had a test mini and all! But it was an failure of epic proportions and I wasn't in the mood to ruin another 19 or so marines. The only thing I have about them is the dreadnought and the barnacles, in the codexes (codecii?) they always talk about marines caring and loving for their armour, so personally I don't think it would have barnacles. Just my opinion though, good work. Wolfbiter
Ok, the starfish on the Dreadnought is full of thematic win. ;) The color scheme is looking very striking. My two very minor suggestions would be to use some Boltgun metal on the pistols and bolters just to make them stand out a little more, and maybe make lightning bolts just a touch thinner. But it's a very vivid scheme. Kudos.
