azironlegion
usefullness aside would raptors be an unfluffy addition to the masters of heavy weapons the IW? What are your thoughts? Jarulek
Hard to say. There aren't direct references (as far as I know) that they make use of them nor that they don't. In the last codex the God-specific legions couldn't field raptors, only undivided ones could. And of the undivided ones the only ones I read references of raptor squads were the Night Lords and the Black Legion. In fact, the term raptor was the name of the pre-Heresy era Night Lords assault squads. But all legions had assault squads prior and during the heresy so I guess it's fluffy. I say go for it if you really want to field them :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/145130-raptors-in-iw/#findComment-1682319 Share on other sites
Cornelias
i'd say assault troops would be widely used in siege warfare tbh, remember being siege specialists not only implies than you can defend objects but also take them aswell :( Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/145130-raptors-in-iw/#findComment-1682446 Share on other sites
Vodunius
i'd say assault troops would be widely used in siege warfare tbh ditto, Space Marine 1st edition had a variant siege list for Astartes which always seemed pretty spot on for me: tacticals and even devastators were heavily limited, you even had to take an assault platoon for every tac or dev platoon, whilst artillery and assaults were unlimited, representing the fact that sieges consist of two parts: trying to breach the defences with BIG* guns before sending IN the infantry to finish off the job (all up close and personal). * hence Devastators being limited, if standard Astartes heavy weapons could breach the enemies fortifications you wouldnt call out a specialised siege force. Lord Antharis
I agree, in a siege, troops that can swiftly take advantage of a break in the enemie's defences would be highly prized. Also raptors might be able to enter an enemy fortress since they are small enough to avoid anti air batteries, and cause havoc inside, messing up the defences, and allowing the grand siege batteries do move up and decimate everything  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/145130-raptors-in-iw/#findComment-1682860 Share on other sites
chillin
I agree it is totally fluffy to use raptors in an IW's army. How usefull would jumppack troops be when trying to take (or defend) a walled fort/city. IoCG or IoK only though, to keep it fluffy (not that those 2 aren't 2 of the best icons for raptors anyway). DuskRaider
I could totally see Raptors in an Iron Warriors army, falling from the heavens onto the city wall's defenses. As far as Icons, IoK or IoS would be best tactically and fluff wise, as IWs were Slaanesh lovers in RT-era, but they're more geared toward Khorne now. Dreachon
Of all the legion the IW were the most pragmatic, if raptors are of use to them you can bet they will have raptors.
