The God Emperor
I'm building a terminator Wolf Lord to replace my incompetent old one in power armour. Here is what I'll give him. Lord Master crafted Frostblade Storm Bolter Wolf Tooth Necklace Runic Charm Pelt Tail TDA ------------------------------- 154. But with the upcoming Storm Shield which will confers a 3+ inv. save. I'm having a dilemma, 3+ inv. save and a whirlwind of destruction in close combat along with his 5 other CC TDA Wolfguards but strike last or strike first in close combat with power weapon +1 strength. I'm glad that Wolfguards do not follow the normal terminator rule of fitting out the whole unit of powerfists while the sergeant will have a power weapon. I'm not sure on this one but can I give my entire Wolfguard pack (5 models) power weapons? My only problem is I do not know to build a Frostblade, my older Lord uses the Ragnar model. Removed point cost please dont put up cost of individual items, Max Dammit Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/145318-my-wolf-lord/ Share on other sites
Jarl Kjaran Coldheart
well, first i rarely give my WL (or any character) a WTN and MC their weapons. with the WTN i hit on 3's all the time, and it adds to many points on the character. second, a frost balde can be any power weapon, so dont worry about how it looks. if you opponents give you crap about it, then first (1) smack them for being such jerks and then (2) paint a blueish/white hue on the power weapons blade to represent its "frostiness". you can skip step 1, but i recommend step 2. third, the storm shield debate. i am having this question myself, and decided to give any power fist characters storm shields, so they can live through the attacks to get their chance, but leave frost blade armed characters with bolt pistols or storm bolters to maximize their usefulness on the battlefield. sometimes, some BS 5 storm bolter shots is all a ork mob needs to decide retreating insnt a bad option. wolf lord kieran Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/145318-my-wolf-lord/#findComment-1684640 Share on other sites
Ullr Direfang
well, first i rarely give my WL (or any character) a WTN and MC their weapons. with the WTN i hit on 3's all the time, and it adds to many points on the character. i agree with this. my only current thought is that i have heard that space marine commanders might be getting WS 6 which might be a reason to take a WTN. But with the upcoming Storm Shield which will confers a 3+ inv. save. I'm having a dilemma, 3+ inv. save and a whirlwind of destruction in close combat along with his 5 other CC TDA Wolfguards but strike last or strike first in close combat with power weapon +1 strength. currently i use the FB and SB style lord or 2x lightning claw lord. i have thought about about the improved IV save but think i am going to stick with the CC lord for fluff. and yes, one of the greatest (though costly) things about wolves, their temies can have all PW or LC and still have the heavies (my favorite i have only used(proxied) once, WGBL, in TDA w/ FB and either an AS or CML, and 9x WG w/ 3 ASor CML, and LC to match.) Brother SRM
I've got 2 Wolf Lords, and I know how easy it is to get carried away with points. So many options, they just stack up quickly, don't they? The WTN isn't worth taking unless you're going against a highly skilled enemy, like Khorne berzerker focused armies, or some Eldar. Master crafted is nice, but expensive. The tail is nigh useless, but for 1 point, it's nothing your losing out over. Runic charms - I NEVER hear other Space Wolf players talking about these, and I don't know why. I give these to my entire Wolf Guard TDA squads. Frost blades are no-brainers. Unless you're giving your lord lightning claws, they're always viable. Frostblades are spoken of in the fluff as being double sided chainswords with the teeth of a kraken for the chainsaw teeth. For this, I used a Chaos Marine chainsword and painted the teeth an icy blue. Looks real solid, and the bit I used also had gloves, and those look pretty good, If I do say so myself. Blue power weapons, as mentioned, also work for these. One of my Wolf Guard has been a WGBL before, and that way he either has a power weapon or frost blade, given his position. However, WGBL with Assault Cannon and Frostblade is pretty ace :o Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/145318-my-wolf-lord/#findComment-1684727 Share on other sites
Jarl Kjaran Coldheart
i think i goofed up in my earlier post...actually, i did goof up. i meant to say i never give my WL a WTN AND a MC weapon. i always include a WTN because of the amount of WS5 enemies out there. i just dont think MC for 15 pts is worth it. rarely have I had one wound be a game changer, whereas 1 more GH can win games. especially the new ork trend, the large nob squad with pain doc (feel no pain), cyork bodesi (5+ invul saves) and the Waaagh banner (+1 WS to entire unit). this pattern is very popular in the local area, and my twin LC equipped WL cant be hitting nobz on a 4+, now can he? wolf lord kieran Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/145318-my-wolf-lord/#findComment-1684744 Share on other sites
The God Emperor
I do agree with the MC being a bit excessive so I think I'll cut that and save me 15 points. What a bummer, I need to find a double sided Imperial chain sword, an Eviscerator comes to mind but too many conversion needs to be done. Is it natural for a WL to tots around the severed his of his enemies e.g. Khorne Berzerker and Chaos Marine heads hanging off him? I think it'll make him look more badass Edit: Rumpaging around my big box, I managed to find a Sentinel CCW. It's a big fat stubby double sided chain blade and a normal double sided chainsword that looks Imperialistic. Jarl Kjaran Coldheart
i see no problem with trophies, but remember to keep them...i wouldnt say modest, but not too chaotic. we have some standards here. :o and on the frost weapon, remember that the Old Wolf's weapon is a frost weapon yet has no chain teeth. more importantly, his weapon was reforged from a chaos lords weapon. so we definately do take trophies. wolf lord kieran Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/145318-my-wolf-lord/#findComment-1684751 Share on other sites
The God Emperor
Thats good, 3 Khornate Berzerker heads shall be hanging off my Lord from various place such as the crotch and off the giant Imperial Eagle wings on my Lord's back. Brother SRM
To your concern on the Chainsword in question, it doesn't look chaotic at all. Looks Imperial as anything. On one of my Wolf Lords, Loki: There was a little tassle on it that I didn't like, so I replaced it with a wolf tail. Looks frosty enough for me. The God Emperor
:) I had that exact sword in the hand of my Terminator but when I decided to cut a bit off to extend it, I cut it at and angle and wrecked it. Now I have to settle for a brutally looking sword thats big enough to chop another terminator in half but it's so short. If someone show me how I can get an image up, I can let you all see it. =D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/145318-my-wolf-lord/#findComment-1684904 Share on other sites
Wolf89
The Axe Morkai can be used "as" a frostblade, it is't one. It can also be used "as" a power fist. - It doesn't look like one of them either. I'm not trying to be a rules lawyer, just pointing out some pitfalls that can come from more stubborn opponents. It is a power weapon, it either confers a +1 strength (our equivalent to a frost axe) or double strength (our equivalent to a power fist), because Grimnar can turn up the juice if he's facing a dread or something that needs more of a punch at the cost of I. I look at it as a frost axe first, power fist second (it's always +1 strength, only some of the time is it double strength when the juice is cranked up). Either way, I just use the power axes that come with the wolf sprues as my frost axes, I do paint them "icy" but you don't have to. The rest of my power weapons are the swords, so the distinction between the two is noticeable and nothing should be wrong (never was called for it in any tournament). Back onto topic of the SS though, I've played a few games with a frost axe SS lord and WGBL using the newer SS rules and they wouldn't die. It's the biggest reason why I went with making salamanders my next list with Vulkan He'stan's 2+ 3++ because I know that will be a hard thing to beat (I have trouble with 2++ cannonesses just imagine a marine with 2+ 3++. Anyways, the trick with WGBG in TDA is keeping them efficient for the points you put in them. Keeping the lord or WGBL that's leading them on the cheaper side (WTN, SS, TDA, and a Frost axe is all you need for him, or even without the TDA you can allocate to a WGBG instead (retinue rules ftw) and not need to worry about keeping him on a 2+ 3++ and just use 3+ 3++. Then your average WGBG will be between 65-75 to be efficient. Also adding a wolf or two to your HQ will make for the cheapest ablative wounds around. Ullr Direfang
i currently only have just "power weapon" styled frost axes, of which i have cut small notches on. i was thinking about making some with chain swords, but could find the bits. to make the people around where i play happy i said, my company has a iron priest that used to be a master ax craftier before he became a space wolf. he there for thinks that crafting chain style weapons isn't high enough quality and chain swords should only be given to blood claws. so to keep the tradition of ice kraken teeth, he placed the teeth into the edge of the blade. it's kind of a crude story, but people said it gave my company even more of an individual feel (some think i should make a book with all the fluff i came up with for them). WolfLordLars
I had an extra Ragnar model that I chopped the sword off of. Then took a metal SW Terminator, cut the power weapon off, and pinned the ragnar blade on. Never had a comment on it.
