Celestin
Posting here instead of HoH because the base isn't done, C&C would be much appreciated, since I'm using him as a template for the rest of my army. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v151/celestinchild/DA_Test_Mini_001.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v151/celestinchild/DA_Test_Mini_002.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v151/celestinchild/DA_Test_Mini_003.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/145508-da-test-mini/ Share on other sites
aioannou
thats a good looking marine there soldier! only crit would be the robes. they are and SOB to get right id say start with komando khaki or something similar and build up, using devlan mud wash and then bleached bone/skull white highlights, but thats my personal prefference, as it seems atm that the robes were brown but stained white. not white that got dirty. but that might just be my tired eyes Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/145508-da-test-mini/#findComment-1686724 Share on other sites
Arch«•»Angel
remember, these if u want good quality results. never go from something dark all the way to something bright. it creates coverage problems and a very unsmooth effect. another way to get a smooth color is to thin your paints down. you can always tell when some ones paint is too thick. nxt would be to remove all mold lines. the one that sticks out like a sword thumb on your mini would be the backpack. Celestin
I nearly finished a second marine last night, got too tired at the end though. I really wish I had more time for painting... Anyways, going to post it tonight once finished, tried something new with the robes, so we'll see how y'all like it. Glad to hear that my iconography is good, those are hard to get just right. Celestin
Okay, pics of my second marine made in this style. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v151/celestinchild/DA_Robed_Marine_001a.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v151/celestinchild/DA_Robed_Marine_001b.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/145508-da-test-mini/#findComment-1689269 Share on other sites
Lion in the Stars
Much better robes, but the white highlight is still pretty rough... Are you using GW Skull White? If you are, I'd suggest P3 Morrow White instead, as it thins out better and covers more smoothly. Also, I think your transitions from dark to light are too abrupt. Love the freehand icons, though! Wraithwing
I'm loving the overall look of your minis. Are you drybrushing the robes? It does look like they've been drybrushed. If you are, don't, as I think it can ruin the effect of the marine. Try working up from a basecoat of Khemri Brown and add successive amounts of Bleached Bone as you highlight.
