Khornate Lord riding Juggernaut

Well. I haven't posted my work here on the B&C for a while. I do however value the input of the Hall of Honor regulars here that seem more slow paced and quality oriented than what's going on in the update frenzy over at warseer.

Therefor I'm posting my latest creation here, which I am very proud of.

I'm also hoping for pointers on what I can do better and what I'm doing right.

I know this is certainly not sloppy work but it's also not perfect and I'm always looking to improve. Therefor I'm looking for critisism at the appropriate level.

Anything anybody has to say about my minis is always nice to hear too so feel free ;) ...anyway! Photos now!

(You can click on the photos. 640 doesn't seem to be small enough to not be shrunk, rather unflatteringly. :) )

All comments and cirtisism very much appreciated.

That's a very nice figure and a unique composition. As for suggestions, I would add a final very fine highlight of either fortress grey or skull white on the cape to make it pop and perhaps even a fiery orange or yellow highlight to the red parts. Otherwise very nice.

Looking good :> Is this a new(ish)ly corrupted Khornate chapter? as he still bears his crux terminatus on a corrupted shoulder pouldron?

I really like the dynamism of the piece, it screams agressive action, which is awesome :>

What is the jugger like to model? I'm fancying one to turn into a 'loyalist' mount at some point, and wonder how easily it could be made 'loyal'...

Wow, thank you all for nice comments.

Fantastic pose. Very dynamic. The scheme suits also. Great job. I love the idea of a more simple and not an overly busy Khorne army. Great stuff!

Thanks, I've been doing the red/black/bone scheme on my army so I knew it works together. However, I was afraid it would be too busy on the jugger if I used all of it (and the lava-ish metallics as well) but I feel it works. It's colorful, but not clowny :)

Awesome, he looks like a badass cowboy from the 41st millennium.

Yep, daemonic bullriding! (immaterial rodeo? ;))

I have been going all the way to bright yellow when edge highlighting the red armor on some of my army. This time I decided to tone it down a bit. I guess I was afraid I might ruin it by going to strong on the yellow. I might reconsider a few edges.

The lords face scares me lol nice work

Thanks, I appreciate that. It was quite frustrating to do but worth it in the end.

Yes. The whole army is newishly corrupted, and also corrupted rather soon after it's founding, so not too set on the imperial defenders' way of life either.

I knew the crux might be contriversial on a traitor but as it isn't the Imperial Eagle I thought he might just still have some honor in the status it represents. Either way, I did conciously let it slide.

Thanks man! The most defining part of the conversion, in my mind, is the lighting claw arm's pose and the way the chain flows. I wanted to link the two models together in more than just putting one on top of the other.

The Jugger (from the bloodcrusher box) is a massive piece of metal. I actually used pretty big pliers to bend the legs into position. It'd take some physical work to trim it down and smooth it out to make it less chaos. Besides, the model itself is a very good sculpt. I decided to cancel all conversions on the Jugger apart from chain relocation and leg bends.

That face is extremely well done. It was a conversion, right?

Thanks man, I appreciate that, and yes, it is. It's the bare head from the Space Marine Commander box. The mouth and chin were kind of weird (still not sure if it was a bad mold or if the head was supposed to be like that) so i reconstructed the cheeks and mouth. It's the most detailed green stuff work I've ever tried. The teeth were a pain in the %. I actually got them really good once but ruined them later when fixing something else. Their pretty good now, but not as good ;)

Lets put a smile on that face!

Why so serious? -_-

Again, thank you all for the kind words.

C&C still very much appreciated.

awesome looking mod.

only crits i can give you is you're mark on the flank of the the jugger needs a fine highlight

as does the lower jaw. (i'm on about the same lvl as you so i can't give you too much tips, lookig for

them myself )

Giving the edge(only slightly) of the horne a sharpend effect would probably give it a little more pop.

i like you're style btw.

Naz

dude, is that a pot leaf on his shoulder? thats what it kinda looks like...

Haha! If you mix pot leaf and chaos ... I think a mark of Khorne would be the last thing you'd get out :Elite:

Extremely cool model!

Very nice pose, conversion work and incredibly well painted too.

I have never really been very fond of the Juggernauts, but you made me change my mind.

Well done! :tu:

Thank you! The new bloodcrusher model from the chaos daemons range really just made the juggernaut cool again!

Thanks man. Yes, you're right. I might add a little yellow or white to the gold and put a fine edge highlight on the mark.

Regarding the Jugger's jaw, I was actually thinking about deepening the whole face a bit, maybe with layers of chestnut ink. Then maybe bring the highlights up again.

I liek the mini, but I -really- like the the idea of him being on a backdrop. Love how it looks like hes riding out on some distant plains. his base is great too.

Thanks! I got the idea of watercoloring backdrops from another Project Log on warseer. I needed something other than plain white paper for background, so the colors would come out better when photographing. I tried this and realized that when it's behind the model like that, and a little out of focus, it really doesn't matter what kind of sloppy gradients you color on there, they'll seem more interesting in that context.

Thanks, everyone, for looking. Feel free to C&C!

i think the head stands out rather well like this, i'm afraid that if you darken it (ecspecially with chestnut)

it will blend into the rest of the models red armor and lose it's edge.

What might be better is using black ink or baddab black wash, giving it more contrast to the resseses and the highlights

without blending it into the model. Never done bone with black, I've allway's used chesnut ink too because it gives it

a more weatherd look, but i've seen some very nice bone effects done with black.

oo I wonder... what if you used the chestnut, and did some radiation highlighting. have the reddish brown near

the armor and radiate it out to white near the edges... might work well. what do you think?

pls post again if you do change the head, i'm curious now ;)

Hmmm ... your ideas are compelling me to re-think how I might spice up the Jugger's face a bit. I'm taking all this into consderation and I'll certainly post new images if I make any changes.

Thanks!

that looks really great

Thank you very much!

Real brutal! Awsome dynamics. But is there a thumbprint on the hood? Kinda looks like it.

Yes, yes there is :D

Anytime I make a surface that large with green stuff I leave fingerprints all over it. Then I fix it a little bit with water, but not enough, because I'm afraid I'll ruin the overall design. Then I just let it slide and fix it as well as I can with the paint job. In this case, I feel it's good enough and I'm not overly concerned.

Thanks for the comments.

... or something equally awesome.

Dude! Was I just flashed? Awexom to the Max!

all i have to say is "yee haw"

Yippee!

Thanks guys. I was at a tournamnt today and the Lord actually managed to dish out some proper pain!

I still lost 2 out of 3 games ... but who's counting?
