Titanicus

Well through a series of mix-ups my FLHS finally got me my copy this week. I have fallen asleep reading it two nights this week. And no, I am not falling asleep from boredom, it is from the fact that I sit in bed reading so long into the night I just end up falling asleep with the book in my hands. Awesome read so far, can't wait to see what is going to happen next so please don't ruin it too much for me!

BTW, this book is totally making me work harder (and put more money in to) on my Ad Mech Force I was building. The codex project is still underway but I have been putting a lot more time here this week towards getting my models around and painted then I have in the past few weeks. I just wish my 'Gunther' model was here from Dust so I could start building on my Warhound. Once that is done it is a scratch built Knight and possibly (If I trust my building skills by that point) a scratch built Reaver (as I don't have $1100 to put towards one).

I just finished this book and I have to say that my one complaint is that Abnett included too many characters. This left me feeling like the book was loose in places, particularly near the end. I wish he had dropped a couple of the storylines and focused more on a couple of the major characters. This would have tightened the book quite a bit.

However, having said that, this was a good book and a great Black Library book. Definately worth the read.

I am a little over 300 pages in but I would have to say that the single most awesome part in the book was

when the two Warlords duelled it out and destroyed the entire hab sector in the process.

. By far the most awesome part in the entire book so far, at least IMO. Makes me wish I could drive a Warlord for a day, would be super nice for the commute, blow traffic out of the way :D

Coming to this late, admittedly, but not threadomancy. I am half way through the book, and have to say that so far it is better than some other of Abnett's recent books - I found the latest Gaunt novels to be an increasingly tired format, the Brothers of the Snake was obviously a cobbled together short story collection and the heresy book was only so-so.

Titanicus (so far) benefits from originality of source in that it describes titan battles, something that few have done before, and none to this extreme. It was the same effect that made Execution Hour (spaceship battles) and Double Eagle (aircraft dogfights) stick out. I will have to hold off on a full review until I have finished it, when I will be able to tell if things were tied up properly or just left as a copout.

So, Abnett is still the best writer they currently have on the BL staff, but to call it the best book I have ever read would be severely over the top! :P I would also not say it was worth the full hardback price of £18 or so, but definitely pick it up in paperback form or get it from Amazon instead for nearly half price as I did. :)

also just finished this.. loved it all... my only complaint is the Samstag story line... seemed like there was almost no point to this at all? ... i also think it kinda finished to quickly...

great book though... but it is abnett... i would always expect it to be great...
