Draakur
I like the idea of getting iconic stuff into character models, items/gear/weapons of significance that embody your chapter and what they're about. With that said, I think Frost Knight's idea is great. From what I can remember of what fluff you've laid down, I can definitely see these guys carrying tomes around, with plenty of oratory from marines of rank on all sorts of occasions, especially around times of battle. Could maybe have his head (so you're going for the first one?) inclined down towards the book in his left hand, reading and fiercely bellowing chants or liturgies as he marches along, with his sword thrust forward in his right hand. If you're not up for the book idea, I think a shield would be the next coolest thing, personally, and as far as I'm aware this will work fine in terms of game mechanics in the new codex. Third choice would be a plasma pistol heh. +edit+ Forgot colours! You could do something as simple as just one shoulder pad (insert and trim), or the helmet, plus the inevitable robes, in black/blue? It'll busy up the models and make them look more complex, which I think is usually a good thing on character models, but you may not feel the same. If that's a bit too much going on you could even just keep their specific colouring to the robes? I think why I'm making these specific suggestions is because I don't like the idea of excluding either of your two main colours. They seem about equally important in my eyes, aesthetically atleast (though fluff justification for one over the other may exist?), so I'd be trying to keep both the bone and the purple instead of excluding one for officer colours, if you can manage it. +2nd edit+ Also forgot the chaplain... crozius and powerfist = my favourite combination  good stuff. natsirtm
Hey buddy, these look great! We should do a team tourney with my novamarines! 1) How should I do Chaplains and Librarians? Should I make the bone sections blue/black and keep the arms how they are, or make the arms bone, or something else? Black and purple looks good, but blue and purple, not so much. I say replace the purple with black/blue - as they are closer and remain contrasting colours with the bone. You could always keep some purple (maybe shoulder pad trim) 2) How should I arm the Captain. He already has the Company Champion's sword (not shown) but can't figure out what to give him as his second weapon. Any ideas? If not a plasma pistol, at least a combi-weapon, but no storm bolter as Hellfire Rounds are a pretty good investment for 10 points. If he's gonna be leading the charge PP, otherwise get a combi-weapon. Khrangar
ItSeWiNg: Feel free to paint them in the Emperor's Word colours, but be sure to let me know <_< @natsirtm: Let me know when there's a team tourny and points and I'll try and have these guys done for it. I got my FW UM Venerable Dread today, and not playing Ultras, I started De smurfing it. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v334/Khrangar/Emperors%20Word/dl1.jpg Khrangar Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/145914-the-emperors-word-space-marines/page/3/#findComment-1769855 Share on other sites
BlueWaterDragon
Lovely! I'll be watching these with deep interest. You asked how to make books. Take a small rectangle of 2-3mm plasticard, flatten out a piec of GS acrossthe edge. flatten another piece so that it is slightly larger than the plasticard and wrap it around. Mark in the pages on the edges and the ridge on the spine binding, leave to set. Add two loops tho attach to belt on the spine et voila. That's for a closed book. An open one is a different kettle of fish. Khrangar
@BlueWaterDragon: Good to know some people are interested ^_^ Here's what I've come up with to solve the scheme problem: Librarian - Regal Blue http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v334/Khrangar/spacemarine5.jpg Techmarine - Mechrite Red http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v334/Khrangar/spacemarine2.jpg Chaplain - Chaos Black http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v334/Khrangar/spacemarine1-1.jpg Still need something for an apothecary, white and bone don't go too well together. Draakur
You could just keep the apothecary-specific equipment white, so the backpack with it's various apothecary doohickies, and the narthecium, and the rest of the marine in standard colours. Can only sort of vaguely picture it in my head, but it could look ok. Frost Knight
maybe for the apothecary red trim with white inset, it might be enough to see the white from the bone. BlueWaterDragon
thing is, you only need to do it differently to mark him out to you and your opponent. On the 'real' battle-field they'd know who he is. why no paint him up with a blood effect down one side and give him a sculpted base? Khrangar
I've come up with something along these lines for the apothecary. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v334/Khrangar/spacemarine0-1.jpg Tactical badge = apothecary badge, and DA symbol = my chapter symbol. Khrangar
Finished the 2 Marines I was working on, well the bodies anyway. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v334/Khrangar/Emperors%20Word/taw1.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v334/Khrangar/Emperors%20Word/taw2.jpg I noticed after the pic one of the marines didn't have his soft armour painted, it has since been fixed. Khrangar
I've been toying a bit with the Captain's power sword and came up with this pose. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v334/Khrangar/Emperors%20Word/dawq.jpg Note: Sword is no where near done. The handle/sword is temporary and will be replaced by the Company Champion sword. It's mainly there to show the pose. Khrangar
I have 2 possible poses for the sword: Pose 1: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v334/Khrangar/Emperors%20Word/sw1.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v334/Khrangar/Emperors%20Word/sw2.jpg Pose 2: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v334/Khrangar/Emperors%20Word/sw3.jpg Light Sabre (not an optional pose): http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v334/Khrangar/Emperors%20Word/aq.jpg Khrangar Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/145914-the-emperors-word-space-marines/page/3/#findComment-1775645 Share on other sites
Hubernator
I like pose 1 the best. BlueWaterDragon
Light Sabre (not an optional pose):http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v334/Khrangar/Emperors%20Word/aq.jpg Khrangar You can use the plastic bit from a cotton bud (Q-tip) as a lightsaber blade. Oh and I worked out how to make an open book. Use the two pouches joined together that you get with the IG, and add a cover with green stuff to the outside, (the bit that should be on show) and use the underside ans the pages. Kek
I like the idea of a lightsabre for marines ;) Imagine if they had them be just like star wars maybe you'd have something like this as lol Horus: Guilliman i am your father! Roboute: Noooo! I don't believe it Horus: Search your feelings you know this to be true Roboute: No i don't accept this (Procedes to stab self in heart(s)) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/145914-the-emperors-word-space-marines/page/3/#findComment-1775797 Share on other sites
Khrangar
The light sabre was more for fun, since the handle of the power axe, minus the axe part, looks like a light sabre handle. I decided to go with a combi-plasma for my captain: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v334/Khrangar/Emperors%20Word/pgun.jpg Also, because I could: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v334/Khrangar/Emperors%20Word/van1.jpg He'll be holding the sword as he is in pose 1. I'll post a complete shot of him when the gs dries.
