Aerion the Faithful
Salutations brothers... Well, when I was first asked to illustrate The Emperor ('Imperator') I remember that I was (as I said in my comments) quite daunted by the project, because he is such an iconic character that you either do a good job, or utterly fail. Fortunately, I managed to do the former, judging by the great response I got from you, brothers. Now I was asked to render the Emperor's most loyal and powerful son, and also the cause of the greatest grief that ever shook the foundations of the Imperium of Man: Horus. Yet another very powerful and tricky (to say the least!) character, that took me a while to finish; but I think the end result is as 'big' and worthy of pride as was the Emperor. http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d61/aerion_the_faithful/INFIDELISEdit.jpg I hope you will like it as much as you did my previous piece of the saviour of mankind. Until soon. Aerion the Faithful Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/145924-artwork-infidelis/ Share on other sites
Alph
Well I'd say you can chalk that up as another win. It's possible that the face may be a little too subdued and the (very light) gold pulls a little too much attention. However if you get over that I think the colours as they are give a very mournful/sad look to Horus which for me fits very very well. As usual the overall quality is stunning and each of the eyes are done in an amazing fasion. Colrouphobic
I am going to just C&P my post on DeviantArt to this topic.. "To date your strongest piece. Outstanding Nicolás, and you know it takes alo for me to say such a thing. I see no issues whatsoever in this image, and you have gone full circle with your artwork. At this time, I would be foolish enough not to remind you that you where going to do some sort of fanwork for my pet project... Any and all info you want is just an email or a note away..." TheDarkApostle
A fantastic piece Aerion. My only grip with this one is that the face seems more like the skin is actually red than the glowing red light effect I assume you were after? But other than that it's really top-notch, the proportions are all right and there's no strange angles or poses or anything. ;) TDA Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/145924-artwork-infidelis/#findComment-1692005 Share on other sites
nurglespuss
awesome sauce! pure 'win' as I have heard Missus Nurglespuss mutter on occassion! I especially like the chunky face, reminds me of thanos, or a less decorated apokolypse. I think some needs to apply for a job with the comic book industry (and then do a Horus Heresy style short comic series for all the fan geeks out there to download ;)) Perhaps a link to the emperor pic? so those who (sadly) missed it can see em together? Maratheus
This is great. I really like the flow of the gold and it's interesting how you render all those angles and edges of the armour. Commissar Molotov
I think it's a very strong piece, made all the stronger when comparing it to the Emperor. You should post the two pics up together, side-by-side, so we can see them as a pair. So, one primarch down, seventeen to go... :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/145924-artwork-infidelis/#findComment-1692445 Share on other sites

solid snake drive
Awesome. When I saw that picture, it caused a pang of sadness in my heart to see such a noble son of the Emperor to fall to such depravity. That is exactly the response you want from those that view your wonderful artwork. Keep up the good work. Aerion the Faithful
Well I'd say you can chalk that up as another win. It's possible that the face may be a little too subdued and the (very light) gold pulls a little too much attention. The gold is indeed a tad brighter than you might exect on the Warmaster, but I wanted to mirror my image of The Emperor, and thus, I needed to show that he had still a 'royal' stance, whilst looking suitably evil and just turned to Chaos. I'm glad that the palette reflects what I tried to show in trems of 'feeling' with this piece. there's definitely a sense of melancholy within this illustration that I'm happy you noticed. I am going to just C&P my post on DeviantArt to this topic..."To date your strongest piece. Outstanding Nicolás, and you know it takes alo for me to say such a thing. I will also C&P my reply, my dear friend ^_^ : Wow, if I was happy with just having finished this mammoth of an illustration, your comment has certainly left me speechless, David... :P I do know how much you nit-pick images (for the improvement and evolution of the artist, of course!) and hearing that you've loved this illustration without a single thing to point out is breathtaking and I do hope I can keep on bringing imagery like this to life, with as much as I can pour onto them, skill-wise and technique-wise. And I do remenber we'd talked about my doing some interpretations of your project. When my work's subsided a bit, I'll surely get some time to work on it (as well as some other stuff I have in queue)... Damien always caught my eye! But other than that it's really top-notch, the proportions are all right and there's no strange angles or poses or anything. TDA Thank you very much, brother! Actually, the red skin isue was raised by Commissar Molotov when I first showed him this piece, and I told him that I was aware of the risk I took in rendering Horus's face this way, but I had to make the decision based on the fact that there wasn't really any other way to properly give the effect the strength it has as it is. I tried having more of a skin tone on the flesh parts, but it detrated too much from the whole aura of evil I wanted to have on the warmaster's countenance. awesome sauce!pure 'win' as I have heard Missus Nurglespuss mutter on occassion! Thank you very much, nurglepuss! If you look into my comments on the first post, you'll find a link to the previous thread I posted The Emperor in; plus, Commissar Molotov has been kind enough to make a mock-up of the two together, mirroring each other which is something I plan on doing soon (when I get the time!). I'm actually working on comics at the moment, though I'm still a long way to go before I become more recognised (I hope!); I'm actually working on anovel as we speak, involving a very interesting storyline and the famous Cpt. Cortez of the Crimson Fists that I will doubtlessly post here when it's finished. This is great.I really like the flow of the gold and it's interesting how you render all those angles and edges of the armour. Thank you very much! I'm glad you liked the detailing of the armour as I took special care when rendering it. I think it's a very strong piece, made all the stronger when comparing it to the Emperor. You should post the two pics up together, side-by-side, so we can see them as a pair. So, one primarch down, seventeen to go... ;) Indeed, my friend, and thank you for posting up that mock-up of the two pieces together. I'll try and take some time off of my schedule to properly put them in a big file and post it up. Well, actually Aerion was telling me on MSN that he plans to re-do all the Primarchs in this new style. ;) So 'actually just 17 to go :P' A chance for us to see them in a new light! ;) Shiney TDA That's actually my idea indeed, and the person whom requested this illustration (as well as The Emperor) has already contracted me to do all of the Primarchs in this new light; I'm certainly excited to get to revise the old designs I came up with and update the older images to better suit the skills and evolution I se in my work of late. I hope you keep enjoying what I have ahead and if anyone else wants to drop a comment or critique, I won't mind at all! ^_^ Until soon.
