WIP death guard(pic heavy)*4 july*

Recommended Posts

hi all,

this is my first every attempt to convert anything really, and certainly my first with the old GS.

let me start by thanking all those (like Cadaver!) who have inspired me to give this a try.

ok so the rhino with the big giant stuck on....meant to be possessed. the rhino with the IMP GRD counts as extra armour. (the idea being nurgle gifted the rhino a protective slime that has to be 'fed' to keep it alive/working...so you get the upgrade but only if you keep up the good work.....which seems all very nurgle like)

please do let me know your thoughts etc.

many thanks

here is my WIP chaos lord conversion. its the first time i have done this kinda thing and im happy with it. its based on an old inquisitor termie figure ( i have another set still in the blister so i didnt feel too bad about destroying this one for papa nurgle!) that i went to town on with my little electric hobby drill. i used it to remove all the old insignia, purity seals etc, and then used it to 'weather' the armour. all those lovely straight edges gone.....i wanted it to look old, very old. a lord figure that had suffered from the rotting, rusting, armour erroding atmospheres it would have been exposed too.

as for the weapons, daemon weapon sword and the old psycannon i think can 'count as' a twin linked bolter...a kinda master crafted thing....?

i also really like the pose, the original model leans forward a lot! but by removing the feet, standing it upright and giving him a pot bellie it has the slow, lumbering, soaking up fire look i was after.

the bit left to do is the top of the model. my other termies have the typhus vents as this one will, but i wanted some sort of banner too. either joining the two poles, or off each of them...(kinda japnese style). i havent decided yet, i hope to have it done by the end of today/tomorrow.

i really like the way you've added ideas to already existing models to create a superb new look. congrats. however i do think that on the rhino especially there should be bits of armour left to show it's a rhino. and on the models instead of a uniform belly hanging out and mutated heads perhaps make the bellies look more natural and part of the model and have like entrails bursting forth for ultimate nurgle essence.

well done

wow, firstly thank you all for your kind words.

secondly....you sure you want me to paint them? geesh. ;)

the reason they havent been painted yet is simply because i like to get them all modelled first as this gives me the time to work out how i want them to look. i have decided on a white base coat (already done at time of writing!) dark green (ork hide) armour trim, red/rusty weapons. then plenty of black, some brown and plenty of green wash all over, followed by a watered down skull white 'stripey' build up. i am painting up one as i type and as soon as im happy with the look i shall crack on with the rest. shouldnt actually take that long.....i think.

i will post my test mini just to get some other thoughts/suggestions. im still a bit out of my depth with painting anything that isnt a) blue and  very flippin' neat!

i want to get them done soon as i have some FW stuff on order ofr october time and im itching to actually USE them!

again many thanks

ok so here is my paint scheme i have used the marine i am least happy with as a test piece, please let me know your thoughts. i want to make sure i get this right before i crack on with all the others!

the bolter is red, but im wondering if i can get away with a tin bitz based rusty look to speed up the process...?

as ever, many thanks for taking the time

ahh nurglespuss, thats a good question. i shall do the same on the vehicle armour as the marine armour. but there isnt much of that to see. just a lot of green stuff. the trouble im having now is what colour to paint the gooey, puss bassed filth on the vehicles and a few marines. purple...green....red? no idea. anyone got a view....some tips....i would be gratefull!

Purple, bright sickly purple. And lots of gloss varnish. :) Either that or yellow CAN work but I'd go with purple personally. As the main colour anyway, you can add over brightly coloured fluids leaking out of it, Nurgle has a varity of oozes. Looking awesome so far, can't wait to see more!.

So green and purple with little tiny lines eh? Now where have I seen that before? :-)

You have no idea how much flack I've taken over the years painting purple plaguemarines. The last laugh is on them.

"If the fool were to persist in his folly, he would become wise."

If you want a really dark purple use some Nauseating blue in there with the warlock purple. You can also use grey with purple to get that pale color. A pale blue also works for Nurgle.

I did up something of a tutorial on that guy. You can see some of the purples, greens, greys, and even blues I've used over the years. I've been working on an orange tinged flesh for a while.

Good luck and just keep expirementing.

thanks muskie, im thinking about painting those rhinos......what im thinking is once the base coat of white is completely finished, if i paint the 'rot' a medium grey in the recesses, and a light grey between the recesses and the white.....and then use the purple wash..will that give me a decent look do you think? in my mind the 'rot' should look shaded in the right places and save me a lot of time. but i thought id ask first!
