BulldogUK
Got round to starting on the bread and butter/cannon fodder/backbone units of the Ultrawings finally, first of about 4 tac squads I think. What started off as a quick skirmish force has expanded into a force of nearly 5000pts, DOH! Also got round to knocking out the Ultra Venerable DN I picked up on games day, very nice figure, tempted to buy the others in the range. I figured with the trophies this fella carries that he probably likes to dance up close and personal with those dreaded xenos so I gave him the two power claws, hey so its not a legal option under the codex but are you gonna argue with a dude in a dreadnought suit?? Besides nothing is fixed so all weapons are interchangable throughout all the DN's in the army Some pics below, lots more in the usual place Crimson Ultrawings! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v429/BulldogUK/SpaceMarineTacticalSquadone.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v429/BulldogUK/SpaceMarineVenerableDreadnought1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v429/BulldogUK/SpaceMarineVenerableDreadnought2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v429/BulldogUK/SpaceMarineVenerableDreadnought5.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v429/BulldogUK/SpaceMarineVenerableDreadnought6.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/146242-crimson-ultrawings-a-chapter-is-born/page/2/#findComment-1719156 Share on other sites
GumbaFish
Looking superb, that is one cool looking dread. The only thing I can even think to comment on, since I love your paintjobs and overall look of the army, are the bases. The rest of the models seem to be very 'realistic' but then they are on bright green bases, or did you do that on purpose to make them stand out? In any case I'll be looking forward to future updates. Cheers Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/146242-crimson-ultrawings-a-chapter-is-born/page/2/#findComment-1719348 Share on other sites
GrimTeef
Lovely work! Really inspiring to see a force come together like this, adn so well painted too. As far as your dread, you can actually field him as a Ironclad Dreadnought from the new codex, which effectively has 2 Dreadnought close combat weapons. GI Joker
Wow, I really love these guys. Through superior painting and converting, you've made guys wearing blue and gold armor look gritty and realistic. Very nice. The only thing I want to point out is that the guys with the muzzle flashes don't seem to be looking at what they are firing at. Aside from that, every thing is perfect, and I don't even like Ultramarines (I know they're Crimson Ultrawings, but they look like Ultras). kanan
hey BulldogUK some really lovely models there. i love the overall colour scheme and all the extra details on the vehicles look superb. for me though the Venerable Dreadnought was the icing on the cake. great stuff mate. you get a Purity Seal! :) paint more, post more Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/146242-crimson-ultrawings-a-chapter-is-born/page/2/#findComment-1719592 Share on other sites
BulldogUK
Thanks for the comments guys, plenty more yet to come! Gumba, these are strictly gaming miniatures as such as far as I am concerned the bases are there simply to stop them falling over, if its any consolation the bases are actually a little darker in natural light, not so luminous :ermm: The table I play on is pretty much the same tone so they blend in quite nicely, not really into all this posy base stuff, I figure in the time it take to build up an intersting base I can paint up another 10 marines! Grimteef, of course, I missed that one! Although its not too bad as all the weapons are interchangable, gotta say though I reckon from the looks of the FW incoming ironclad, one is definately going on the list! I am actually tempted to splash out on a couple more from the FW range of Ven DN's I was very impressed by the quality of this one GI, 99% of this army has been bought second hand from ebay (probably the cheapest army I have ever assembled!!) as such a lot of the figures are already assembled and sadly most are in pretty lame poses! Try as I may I simply couldnt remove these heads and re-pose, stuck like the proverbial sh*t to the army blanket! I thouroughly agree though, its amazing how much difference a jaunty angle to the head can make to the character of a figure! Chronowraith
I had been wondering what the Ultramarines dread would look like with a good paint job. Glad to see someone paint it up nice and proper. Fantastic job all around. Very inspirational in many ways. BulldogUK
Small update. Another tac squad enters the ranks along with 5 more assault marines. Also painted up some of those converted scout minis which first set the ball rolling. Some of the marine heroes have signed on with the crimsons for a tour of duty too. Sergeant Telion was easy to talk round, a full English and free beer and he gladly agreed to lead the scouts into battle. Brother Sergeant Chronus more or less volunteered, he figured there was a good chance that he could smack a few heads together using overwhelming heavy armour if he stuck close ny the Crimsons. Tigurius didnt so much volunteer for a tour with the Crimsons. It's more the fact that Sergeant Samuel still has those pictures of him and the Sister of battle at his 250th Birthday party, who would have thought that someone wearing power armour could be quite so flexible! More pics usual place The Crimson Ultrawings! few tasters below http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v429/BulldogUK/SpaceMarineAssaultsquad2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v429/BulldogUK/SpaceMarineTacticalSquad21.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v429/BulldogUK/SpaceMarineScouts4.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v429/BulldogUK/SpaceMarineScouts3.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v429/BulldogUK/SpaceMarineSergeantTelion.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v429/BulldogUK/SpaceMarineBrotherSergeantChronus.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v429/BulldogUK/tiggy1.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/146242-crimson-ultrawings-a-chapter-is-born/page/2/#findComment-1731388 Share on other sites

Captain of The Inceptors
Hey dude, these guys look awesome, your painting and converting is top-notch! I'm really interested in the muzzle flashes, more specifically the rocket launcher and the flamer as they are the most unique pieces, I would love to field them for the wows I'd get from opponents and onloockers. How do you do it? Captain Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/146242-crimson-ultrawings-a-chapter-is-born/page/2/#findComment-1732084 Share on other sites

BulldogUK
Getting into the Jazz now! Few more updates, finally got round to the command squad complete with a little customised Crimson Ultrawings banner! Done a squad of bog standard Terminators (5 more to do). Also the Chaplain has been shopping on ebay and bought himself a suit of terminator armour...bargain! Sicarius has shown his face to check out the battle force, truth be told some of the lads in the command group reckon he looks a little like a pretty boy and have nicknamed 'Suckairyasse', but don't let on <_< http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v429/BulldogUK/SpaceMarineCommandgroup.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v429/BulldogUK/SpaceMarineCommandgroup2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v429/BulldogUK/SpaceMarineTerminatorChaplain.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v429/BulldogUK/Sicarius.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v429/BulldogUK/SpaceMarineTerminatorsunit11.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v429/BulldogUK/SpaceMarineTerminatorsunit1.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/146242-crimson-ultrawings-a-chapter-is-born/page/2/#findComment-1745698 Share on other sites

Shiodome
not so keen on your skin tones, but it's such a rediculously small thing in comparison to such a nice force that i'm ashamed i even mentioned it  would be a pleasure to play against this army on the tabletop, which is the only compliment that really counts. GumbaFish
Wow you are really cranking these out, how do you paint them so fast? Master Toddius
Great work bro. All the little effects and details make these guys really stand out. The color balance between the primary colors and the armor is nicely done. And the weathering is done with an even balance as well. You should be proud of these guys. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/146242-crimson-ultrawings-a-chapter-is-born/page/2/#findComment-1746048 Share on other sites
