Crimson Ultrawings! A Chapter is born!

This is the best smurf thread I've seen here in years. Everything I see on here is top class. Great job. And I love the fact that you achieving high quality while blasting through all this great stuff.

BTW, don't let it get you down that others possess zero sense of humour or don't understand that having character doesn't reside in pure 1's and 0's. Blast modeling and flame modeling adds alot of flavor. And the hamster ammo provides a fun laugh. Far beit for any of us to do this with gaming and hanging out with friends.

Oh, the Dreaded Terminator RDS (Rodent delivery system) Tungsten helmeted high explosive hamsters, when you absolutely and positively have to kill every last mofo in the room

"Go for the eyes, Boo! Go for the eyes!"

"Butt kicking for goodness"

I think Minsc summed it up nicely.

ROFLMAO oh my giddy aunt :)

Love the comments on the hamsters, its nice to hear there are more people about who take the whole hobby tongue in cheek and are out to simply enjoy things rather than memorise every paragraph of the rulebook

Btw, I sent details of the Rodent delivery system to Forgeworld asking if they could include it in the next armour book <chuckle>

Bases will stay green as I play on a green table, and effectively they are gaming miniatures so dont want to spend more time than I have to on them. It took all my willpower not to edge them in the fabled goblin green so this is a happy medium! Besides, its always something I can go back to in spare moments if I change my mind ;)

Chaplain, keeping with the simple fast mantra of the rest of this army the robes are very very simple. Basic brush blending starting from Bestial brown* (possibly vermin fur in today's range?) base-coat, working up through snakebite leather, vomit brown, bleached bone and finally highlights of white. I like to stick to unmixed colours if possible as it speeds things along! Just remember to keep the paint wet by regularly tounging the brush (oooer, am I aloud to say that?!) Oh and dont forget to wipe your lips and swill your mouth out before you go out!!!

*Yes I still have some original pots of paint (10+ years old) which have NEVER dried out or thickened.....so much for the technology of new paints!

Anyhow, no updates for a few days now, comp going in for a mobo/cpu ugrade and then I have all the 'fun' of installing a new OS and all my progs, happy joy! See you in a few days........hopefully.......

Ah ha! A member of the Cult of Brush Lickers! I didn't know there were any in 40K gaming, having only ever encountered them on Reaper's boards.

Managed to strike a few more off the list!

Brother Barry must be going through some sort of mid-life crisis. He has sold the Terminatore suit and bought a motorbike!

Second squad of Terminators, these are the AoBR figures, quite nice all things considered, looking forward to painting the rest of the box contents

The big man himself Marneus Calgar dropped by to borrow some DVD's from Tigurius, typically he couldnt resist flexing his muscles and posing for the chapter photo album <rolls eyes>

Rest of the gang here Crimson Ultrawings some new pics below

Just finished the last of the heavy armour, Land-raider terminus, surprising how Chronus suddenly looses interest in the Crusader when he spots something with more guns uh?!

The weapons on the raider are fixed using magnets which mean I can use it as a bog standard raider if need be saving me having to buy a kit! (shown on last picture)

Also figured with all that heavy metal rumbling into battle better have some mechanics in tow. You know the sort, sharp intake of breath, 'ain't gonna be cheap m8, your widget thingumybob has blown'

Had a few spare servo skulls left over from the Titan so thought they might look nice mounted on the Techs. Don't worry I haven't developed a miniature anti grav motor, the thin wires holding them have been photo shopped!!!

  • 3 weeks later...

Well, not much to do now! just a landraider to go and maybe a few more character piesces.

In the meantime here are the latest additons to the Crimsons. The Vanguard and Sternguard are made up from the new figures as well as the exisitng veteran miniatures, just a little chopping and changing here and there to give them more appropriate weapon loadaouts. The Dread is the one from the AoBR box set, picked up the biker from ebay for peanuts, I just thought he was cool, had him painted the same day he arrived, the box he came in was still next to me when he was finished LOL! Iikewise the WIP landraider I have was a second hand model from ebay so its a little rough around the edges, as such I have added some riders and stowage similar to the razorback to cover up the worst, pics ASAP as well as some army shots over xmas hopefully...in the meantime here are some pics, more pics and fluff as always on the Crimson's webpage at Crimson Ultrawings!

A conversation on another forum brought about the fact that it is always nice to have a little background fluff on some of the characters. The Crimsons all have a story to tell, take Brother Barry for instance....

He started out on a nice cushy number as head candle snuffer on the Mighty Titan Brother Humongus. Until an unfortunate incident with a weak bladder (an unfortunate encounter with the wrong end of a ripper swarm during the tyranid wars) and the purity font!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v429/BulldogUK/chaplainhires20.jpg

Bishop Ralph didn't stop ranting about it for weeks afterwards..

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v429/BulldogUK/chaplaintitanfinished3.jpg

As a punishment he was knocked back down to infantry where, truth be told, he really enjoyed himself.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v429/BulldogUK/SpacemarineChaplain.jpg

So much so that he thought he could make a bigger impact if he packed a bigger punch so a few hours on ebay and he managed to bag an 'as new' suit of terminator armour, he was a happy bunny, look at the grin on his helmet!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v429/BulldogUK/SpaceMarineTerminatorChaplain.jpg

Of course Brother Barry was hitting that sort of age when the old 'mid-life crisis' hits in so one day he just sold everything and bought a BIG BIKE!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v429/BulldogUK/SpaceMarineChaplainonbike2.jpg

Sadly it was inevitable, we all know middle aged men and powerful bikes simply do not mix. Needless to say I shall soon be painting up a Chaplain Dreadnought, we just managed to scrape enough of him off the back of the landraider to fill the sarcophagus!!!

to be continued.....

Amazing work here! what size muzzle blast effects are you using on the bolters? I checked through this thread a while back and totally missed the dude with the huge jets of flame!!! Awesome mini's!

I recently bought some 1/35 scale tank accessories based on how cool your preds look! Who's the manufacturer of your pieces?

cheers and keep up the good work!
