Crimson Ultrawings! A Chapter is born!

Well, I havent had cause to add much lately but after working on the Stormbird I thought the jet effects look quite funky and in keeping with the comic book gun effects so I decided to add a few to some of the assault troops and characters.

Planning on buying the Ironclad (although tempted to wait for an FW version) and the Storm speeder soon so will be updating soon as :D

Wow. I don't generaly like ultramarines or the colour scheme and takes me a lot to comment on threads with them on, but wow. I love the personaliation of having SM's sitting around on the tanks, talking to each other and stuff, in fact the one on a (pred I think) at the back looks as if hes swinging his feet like a child. lol

The painting on your tanks is fantastic especialy the dirt/mud effect you managed.

My only only 2 crits, the SM's & tanks that are fireing are missing some hint of miniflash light reflecting off thier armour. And Karchev as a 40k model doesnt really fit, good effort but as I play both game systems it looks way to out of place in 40k. (I think Vladimir would kick your bumb if he knew).

Oh and I almost forgot, when I actulay looked at what that terminator was using as missiles. I thought people were having a laugh but on closer inspection I see they really look like hamsters. roflmao.

awesome job mate as always, but I hate you :D in a good kinda way though.

I am sure there is some sort of mini tut somewhere in the this thread?

In the meantime decided to add a few drop pods to the army but was way too tight to spend the wonga on the kits. Had a crack at one of the many card templates that are out there and have to say am pleasantly surprised by the results. A little fiddly to be honest but with 5 sheets of card, a little time you end up with a nice looking model and the RRP of the kit still in your pockets :)

With a little extra work you could probably hinge the doors too, as I only wanted these to represent the position of the pods I didn't bother.

Here are the parts all pre-cut and ready to glue together

Assembled and shown next to a GW plastic pod

Will try and find some time to slap a little paint on them in the next week or so...

Lovely painting, but some of the models with the firing effect look like they are randomly discharging their guns without looking and it makes them a look a bit... dumb, like the chaplain above or Calgar previously.

I did a lot of martial arts in my youth, I could kick a dude in the face behind me while looking at and blocking the crazy guy coming at me from another direction. If I could do it I am sure a genetically modified futuristic soldier wouldn't have problems multi-tasking ^_^

It should be noted that my skills have only improved, I often am able to pick my nose, use the tv remote AND look out the window...ALL AT THE SAME TIME!

Nice work with the template-made pods. I used the GW France template that was floating around ages ago to make a trio of those, but yours are far more detailed, and far better. But without hinged doors, how will they fire the gerbil-rockets?!

Evern though she who must be obeyed has finally collared me to get the kitchen done I still found a little time to finish the paper pods.

Cheap n cheerful, quite pleased with the results! Might even build another 7!

BullDog, I am thoroughly impressed with your Chapter and the colour scheme. It looks impressive, but I'm sure you've heard that enough already.

What really made me take notice was the scratch made DropPods. They look not only impressive, they look like they were bought and glued shut. You said you picked up a card template? Could I ask where you found them? I've been playing around at building terrain and the like with Card and such, but I would love to have a gander at those templates.

Kudos, sir, kudos.

Ps : Those Riders on your tanks - Pure genius! It's where I spent most of my time during redeployment!

Insertcoins, best bet is to just google 'em and see what comes up. That's how I got 'em!

Anyhow, now I have got a little more of the bigger projects out of the way started to expand the Crimsons again. got an Ironclad, Storm speeder, Lysander, Shrike, scout bikes, couple of vindicators, 20 more tac marines, 10 more scouts to go. got most cheap and second hand from good old ebay, just picked up a couple of forge world razorbacks for 25 quid all in!

And all this started as a 'small skirmish force' <large rolling of eyes>

First up was a Rhino I bagged for 6 quid, now, in retrospect if I had known it had been assembled by a 2 year old bottle fed on maddog then I might have not bothered!

Managed to scrape together 5 marines from the bits box and with a few other parts while maybe not creating the proverbial silk purse from the sows ear I think I produced a presentable fake leather wallet?

Second up was a speeder for about 4 shiny ones. First picture shows the state it came in. I wanted to show that it's possible to do things cheap without having to resort to all that paint stripping fannying about. basically all I did with this model was scrape the bad bits out with the edge of a blade, filled a little here and there then gave it a good coat of black. serves well to finally complete my speeder squadron!

Hopefully will get stuck into the Razorbacks next although probably won't hear anything for a while as I am pre-occupied over the next couple of weeks with a LARPing event so talk soon chaps!
