CSM Greater Daemon: HQ question and targeting question

Hi,

I had a question regarding the CSM generic graeter daemon. It says in the codex it is considered an HQ choice. When you bring the GD in the place of a aspiring champion, is the daemon considerd attached to that squad? In 5th edition it says any HQ choice that moves within 2" of another unit is considered attached to that squad.

Also, if a greater daemon is standing in the middle of a squad of CSM, can he be targeted> I was playing a game earlier where the CSM player brought in his GD in place of his CSM aspiring champ, right in the middle of his squad. I went ahead and shot him up with lascannons and ML's. Is that legal? I mean, if an IC is attached to a squad you can not target him, but the GD is a monsterous creature. I a m confused.

I am not entirely sure how that got translated over into 5th Editin, but in 4th Edition a monstrous creature inside another unit could still be selected as a separate target, unless that unit had a special rule that prevented it (as in the case of tyrant guard). I am pretty sure that they kept that ruling in 5th, but I cannot check right now.

i believe the GD is no longer a part of the squad he possess.

and you can always target Monstrous creatures unless behind scenery or tanks and the like.

you can pick out the GD as he is not part of the squad

and is taller than the marines for LOS

Question: Where does it say that all HQ units are considered Independent Characters?

Answer: As far as I know it doesn't say that anywhere!

Question: Does the Greater Daemon entry say that a Greater Daemon is an Independent Character?

Answer: No it doesn't.

As such the Greater Daemon would not be able to join a unit to begin with.

Problem solved.

OK, thanks guys. So in review, you can target a greater daemon who is still mixed in with the squad that belonged to the champion he possessed, as the greater daemon is not actually part of that squad anymore.

You deserve a cooky.
