I contest this objective

Recommended Posts

this has probebly been done before, but can a unit that is retreating contest an objective.

Acourding to the rulebook they can, but in a few games I've played against GW staff,(and my own common sence) they cannot. just want to know what I should go with

Acording to the rule book, page 90, the only times a Troop unit isn't a scoring unit is when: a) it is a vehicle, :) it is a swarm, or c) it's rules say so.

Their mistake is probaly due to the fact that in 4th edition units falling back weren't scoring.

Also, to contest, you do not need to be scoring anyway. Swarms, vehicles and specifically non-scoring units can still deny an objective. Odd as it may seem, I've yet to see anything in this edition that negates their scoring or contesting status, whilst falling back.

Units that are falling back can't contest objectives, because they are no longer on the board!

BRB P90:

In standard missions, as soon as the game ends and before working out victory conditions, all units that are falling back are removed and count as destroyed.

Yes, I think they should have made a reference to this under scoring units, but Puffin is correct.

Btw, when falling back, do you fall back to YOUR nearest deployment edge or just ANY nearest deployment edge? i.e. If I am closer to his table edge do I fall back to his lines or mine? ^_^

your own.

it can get confusing in table quarters deployment, and there are differing ways of reading it (deployment table edges and deployment zone edges) though I think generally table edges is accepted.

Actually, the table quarters (Spearhead) deployment type requires the player who will go first to choose an own table edge, of the long table edges, leaving the other player with remaining long table edge.

Falling back is towards the unit's own table edge, not towards the deployment zone/edge or similar, which would still be the long table edge mentioned in the deployment rules.

You fall back towards your long table edge. Which may or may not be in your deployment zone if you play quarters.
