Lothar_Bubonicus
I am constantly tweeking my CSM army at the moment the troop choices consist of 2x5 plague marine squads and 10 marines with a heavy weapon and the nurgle icon. The CSM squad is very expensive at 260+. I am thinking of bining it replace it with a a third plague marine squad and add a couple of PMs to the other two squads. BUT while PMs have a sort of 4+ Inc save to anything that is not an AP1 or 2 weapon or power weapon I am not liking their low I. Has any other aspiring Mortarion felt the same? Any suggestions Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/146929-csms-nurgle-icon-vs-plague-marine/ Share on other sites
chillin
PM is way better the csm w/ nurgle icon. Blight grenades, FNP, able to take 2 special weops w/ less then 10 men, the T5 w/ fnp means that even at int.3 there will be plenty of them around to strike back. The IoN is so expensive that it is only worth it if the squad is 12-15 strong, also the icon bearer can be killed. 5 man squads is not big enough even for PM's, make them squads of 8. If you do keep a csm squad, never put a hvy weop in there, 2 assault weops only. pwrserge
Plague marines all the way. And forget this entire units of 8 garbage. Of you do that you might as well polsih up you goalposts and chain axes. Go with 7 it's much cooler. (and has no disadvantages as you are fearless and units are scoring to the last man anyway.) Greyfeathers
Three things to know; 1. Always take plague marines over chaos space marines with the mark of nurgle 2. Plague marines are the BEST CSM troop choice 3. Plague marines are the best :P Hope this helps Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/146929-csms-nurgle-icon-vs-plague-marine/#findComment-1709038 Share on other sites

Massawyrm
There's almost no reason to take standard CSMs, unless you're looking for larger numbers of troops for some reason or another. Each of the four major specialist troops are far superior and can fit whatever role you need. If you're bummed by the CC ineffectiveness of our rotting boys, put in a unit of Khorne Berzerkers. Not as survivable, but they'll rip apart whatever they touch. Need Marine Killers? Put in a unit of TSons, drive them to where you need them, disembark and then shoot the crap out of those pesky boy scouts. There are usually better or cheaper ways to accomplish whatever it is you want to do with standard CSMs. The only way I can really justify a CSM unit these days (5th Edition where Troops reign king) is to throw out a 110pt 5 man no frills squad with Rhino - or a 75pt Rhino-free squad to hold a base or objective. Khestra the Unbeheld
Actually, if you're that bummed about the low I of Plague Marines, marry them up with a squad or two of Noise Marines; combination massed fire with sonic weapons and high I for assault make them great at CC support for units of beleagured Plague Marines, and they aren't Khorne so there's no way Fluff Monster can sink its teeth into your list. Cale
Standard Chaos Space Marines are fantastic, but the Icon of Nurgle is a shocking waste of points. If you really want tough marines, play Plague Marines.
