Scura
Good evening dear Battle Brothers. Have a seat, get yourself an ale, my brother made it....smells good, doesn't it! So. I am in need of information. As i tend to call myself one of the lost because i for loooooong time now seek the answer to which chapter to choose, i am astonished myself to find me just here beyond you fine Wolves ... astonished cause i never thought of SW ever before! Now. I am also one poor puppy cause i have only access to the less informative Online Codex of your fine Order. In seeking background information i got lost in the endless width of corridors of knowledge but didn't find anything useful about Space Wolves so far. So i come here asking you directly: What do i have to know about the Chapter known as Space Wolves? What is it regarding this 13th Company? Where to find information concerning Your Special Characters like "Ulrik" for example? May i field a Space Wolves army without special Bits for a start? Something still tends to keep me from finishing my Blood Ravens and i tend to think by now, it's their poor to not existing fluff made around them. So i am in search for my chapter for so long now. And i thought, maybe in BT and DA lay the truth and some bits lay there, sure...but in the end i very much recognize my conquest isn't over yet. Maybe some answers to above questions could give additional light into my dark perdition... Thank you for the time spent to read me out and i really hope you find the time between one ale and another to just answer me questions...just for the help from one Battle brother to the next if you like...! Best wishes, Scura. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/147087-what-to-know-about-space-wolves/ Share on other sites
Dark Bjoern
Welcome to the Fang, Whelp. Your ale is a fine brew. It´s very importent that you feel it by heart if an army is the right for you. For me it had been the SW for 16 years now. To answer all your questions would take a long time but here you will find some answers. Megalodon
Welcome to the Fang! Here's a few things to know about the Space Wolves to get you started. What's not Kool about genetically enhanced Vikings in space!? SW are structured completely different from normal SM's. Our squads are called Packs. Bloodclaws are the newest members of the SW's Our scouts are veterans and loners. Grey Hunters are our tactical marines, they don't carry heavy weapons, but do have a large amount of power weapons available. Long Fangs are the oldest marines in the SW list grizzled old devastators, with the ability to split their fire between two targets. We can have a Venerable Dreadnought as an HQ choice. Scura
@Dark Bjoern Thank you - long read. I only fly over this looooong article but got a glance on the 13th company which in some strange way stands out to me. Where to get real informations regarding pointcosts? How are they organized/equipped? Why is there no hint on them in the online codex? do they not exist in terms of game play? @Megalodon Thank you for the reply. What about special Chars like Ulrik and Sternhammer? Where to get information about them? Megalodon
The best place to get info on Ulric is the outta print SW codex. Sternhammer was a games day mini, with the rules being given only at that games day unfortunately. Scura
The best place to get info on Ulric is the outta print SW codex. Ehhhhrrrr......well.......that IS the problem here. I don't have access to it! I am stuck with this downloadable one from GW sites.....and this sucks as it only contains some pointcosts on units and wargear....no special character even mentioned nor pics or company marking/colors explained... !3th company grey i only know from some comments on peoples picture posting in the P,C&A forum....that's it. And as Dark Bjoern was absolutely right, one must pic his chapter by heart, i really need to know more background and such and fell in love with some nice clean painted minis as i always take my love from seeing things and then reading all about them... This said, DA have way the thickest fluff out there as far as i know. and so i really like them...not that Sw really do too, i know :eek For my love of BT it is their Knighthood flavor. Those Knights appealed to me since i was a child and i saw every Movie about it...Richard Eisenherz, Schwarzer Ritter..etc these are my heroes from childhood...BT just represent this for me. And Space Wolves i never really took serious look at. Gone friend of mine played them but he was such a crap painter...he really somewhat dunked them into paint and called them finished...BAH! So i looked the other way and left...simply ignoring them for 10 years now...silly, isn't it? But with the upcoming C:SM and it's unbearable shadow it spreads ahead, i am looking everywhere to find hostage. I wouldn't even be surprised to sell my up to 200 Space Marines and start Necrons ;) - joke, sure. But still right in terms of despair. I even don't sleep or dream bad concerning Space Marines and W40K....shiver...now i notice it, it makes me .....somehow.....feel bad! Vash113
The DA have the most fluff out there? Hardly. Some references for example: Dark Angels -Angels of Death Codex 2nd Edition -Dark Angels Codex Supplement 3rd Edition -Dark Angels Codex 4.5 Edition -Descent of Angels (Horus Heresy Black Library Novel) -Angels of Darkness (Black Library Novel) -Index Astartes Dark Angels ... and a handful of short stories in various anthologies. Space Wolves -Space Wolf Codex Supplement 2nd Edition -Space Wolf Codex Supplement 3rd Edition -Eye of Terror Codex 13th Company -Space Wolf (Black Library Novel) -Ragnar's Claw (Black Library Novel) -Grey Hunter (Black Library Novel) -Wolfblade (Black Library Novel) -Sons of Fenris (Black Library Novel) -Wolf's Honour (Black Library Novel) -Index Astartes Space Wolves -Index Astartes 13th Company -Eye of Terror Index Astartes Articles -Armageddon Index Astartes Articles ... and a number of other smaller articles and a couple short stories. Blood Ravens - The Chapter also has a Comprehensive History article here click me. -Dawn of War -Dawn of War Ascension -Dawn of War Tempest -Index Astartes Blood Ravens -Dawn of War (game) -Dawn of War Dark Crusade (expansion) -Dawn of War Soul Storm (expansion) and other Chapters have just as much if not more fluff as well. The Dark Angels have some material but not nearly as much as for say the Ultramarines or Space Wolves. Anyway as for the Space Wolves themselves the Comprehensive History article linked earlier will answer most if not all of your background questions. As for rules the downloadable codex is pretty much all the rules available now and need to be used in addition to the current Codex: Space Marines as the Space Wolves rules are still a supplement rules set and not a stand alone set like the Dark Angels, Blood Angels, and Black Templars latest codexies. Dark Bjoern
I think you should try to get a C:SW from Ebay to get the stats for Ulric the Slayer, Ragnar Blackmane and Logan Grimnar. For Sternhammer try to google him. That´s the way i got a scanned (german) datasheet for him. I fear that´s the only way to get one. And don´t forget that you need the permission of your opponent to use him (in friendly games not a big problem). Scura
@Vash113 Now i am in your dept. This much on information is rather overwhelming. I really thank you as you brought me on Blood Ravens tails too and listed nearly every bit of fluff regarding my favorite chapters...this will take long to read ;) ... maybe in this extensive time the new C:SM will arrive finally at my door and i can simply start all over. I looked for the C:SW on ebay.de and there are some. I may give it a try if i can get one under 10,-. @wolf89 ;) thank you for the direct link....nice! Wolf89
< From Bayern Glad I could help, just remember the 13th company are no longer a legal list (at least for now) so be weary about what you all buy and such. From what I hear though we'll be getting wulfen elites in the upcoming SW codex come late 2009 or something. I had loved to field 13th Co. as this grey really came to me....sigh! Well nonetheless i will read me through all this. Maybe i come across some interesting stuff that catches my eye... ...and thank you all for the nice links...lot to read anyway :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/147087-what-to-know-about-space-wolves/#findComment-1706750 Share on other sites
Wolf89
Well you can still do what I do, (I love the 13th company as well and fielded it every chance I got while it was still legal) and just converted all my SW's to have some pieces of chaos, and paint them the old grey color, nothing wrong with that. Plus you get to use tanks then. :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/147087-what-to-know-about-space-wolves/#findComment-1706757 Share on other sites
Scura
I've read something and starting to like the flavor of the wolves. In my head is a picture of my Wolf Lord on a Bike with his Pet, which is a uniquely converted wolf/hound model. Along with two other Dogs/Wolves. Sounds somewhat fluffy to me and i have this picture really alive now.... Well, some more bikes, lets say 5 to 10 and two to three Rhinos sounds nice for me too....i will make up an army list and see, how many points i want to field and what gets into it at 1500pts. Grey Mage
Ive heard this a few times before... but why/when did the 13nth co become obsolete? If you look at your RTT's usable lists 13th company isn't mentioned, but for the ard boyz they were allowed in the quarter and semi finals, but not the finals.
