Cassarus
good stuff, but woundn't it be enough to have one thread for all your models, would be easier to keep track of them all then... Marius Perdo
Not sure, as I'll probably do them all at different speeds so I thought keeping them seperate would make them easier to track. It is all one huge project though... What is the usual convention hereabouts? My only concern with the single thread was it would get very fractured and disjointed. However you aren't the first to mention it *shrugs* What do the moderators think? Merge them and I'll take the hint ;) As for the axe, it was deliberate, I wanted a feral looking weapon. I am going with some head hunters so I wanted a double headed axe for lopping them off. The heads that is, not the head hunters ;) It is the metal veteran's axe attached to a plastic terminator thunderhammer arm. The powe cables on the arm make it look less "low tech", but they are out of shot unfortunately. GAR
I like the prgression so far. Nice and shiny, but not to shiny. One thing I found by accident is the dwarf thunders have a whole mess of axes for use. I plan to add them to my marines to increase the feral-ness of my own. pretty sure they can be picked up pretty easy at Bitzkingdom or wartore or discount bitz vendor of choice. Marius Perdo
@ GAR Thanks for the heads up, has to be cheaper than buying metal veterans just so I can nick their axe heads ;) The metal effect is spray black, paint Bolt Gun metal, ink wash Badab Black. That is it although, I will do some Chainmail highlighting on character models. Mal
I think the axe is quite suitable... its not massively oversized (like a lot of marine weaponry), but it fits the role quite nicely. (And as a Warhammer Ancients player, realistic sized weaponry is quite refreshing) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/147120-terminator-captain/#findComment-1706967 Share on other sites
Cassarus
Not sure, as I'll probably do them all at different speeds so I thought keeping them seperate would make them easier to track. It is all one huge project though... What is the usual convention hereabouts? My only concern with the single thread was it would get very fractured and disjointed. However you aren't the first to mention it *shrugs * Well sure, but I think 11+ different threads for a single person and his army is a bit much for anyone, it kinda makes all other threads disappear, and I feel reluctant to read all the threads just to see where your army is going. and if your really building your army in 2 weeks, one tread, how ever fractured it might be would still suite the same purpose. Thats just my to blight grenades /Cassarus Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/147120-terminator-captain/#findComment-1708680 Share on other sites
Marius Perdo
@ Cassarus 2 weeks! I think you are confusing me with GAR, I never said I was doing it in two weeks. Thus I knew over the coming year it would get fractured. I am also very aware that when trying to read other "single army" threads myself that it can get very difficult to work out if anything has been added, and what, and when. It all just blends into one huge melange for me, I am not trying to spam or bump others good work down, that would be pathetic and trollish behaviour. I am just trying to keep them managed. Oddly enough I have had very few mentions of this, and when I mean a few a mean like two. But I have had hell of a lot more PM requests/e-mails to keep doing it, keep sharing, keep up the good work, keep showing how I do it etc. In the same vein a couple have complained about the image sizes, even though I have reduced them from 1.5 MB on my PC to 170 KB each or so, or they want me to crop them (I assume they have very slow connections or a bandwidth limit, I don't, you get what you pay for is what I always say, or this is just no pleasing some people). Now, given how many people are looking at them and NOT complaining (quite the opposite in many cases) compared to the highly vocal few it has got me thinking... Democracies, which I assume we all live in, are based on voting really. Majority rule. So whilst the many are happy, and a mere publicly vocal handful are annoyed (or just being plain obsteperous which I don't think you are to be fair), I'll spend my time keeping the many happy, and not the few. Or to put it another way, as I can't please everyone I'll just have to try and please the majority :) @ marine players generally With a lot of these WIPs it isn't even about the fact I am building/painting Silver Skulls, as the ideas are basically usable and adaptable by most new codex marine players. That is certainly the sort of feedback I am getting from the majority anyhow. Having annoyed less than a handful of people to one side, the most enjoyable and unexpected aspect I have gotten from this is the number of people who have said it has inspired them...to finish off anything from tactical squad to starting a whole new marine army. I really didn't expact that. So, whuilst it keeps potentially inspiring most marine players I'll keep doing it. However, now I have a decent program for photo manipulation I will crop them a bit. Due to my crap photography skills (and I use the term skill loosely there) to be fair I am wasting file size on white card, which is daft. I will still keep the actual works seperate though, but I'll stop posting as often. There is loads I have done that I haven't posted (and won't), but one barely converted assault squad is pretty much the same as another really B) Regardless I am back at work tomorrow so the output will drop off massively anyway. I am not unemployed or a student, I've just had a few weeks off is all :jaw: The nose goes back to the grindstone tomorrow. Patrick O)))
I think you might be losing sight of the fact that this is an internet forum, not a democratic society in macro. 6+ threads for what is, essentially, the same project is a bit much. I'm saying this for your own good; when I see half a dozen threads by the same person posting single figures that are all at pretty much the same stage, I very quickly stop looking. I'm sure I'm not the only one - of your threads this is the only one that is still on the first page, and only two of them have any comments, so I don't think any ideas of pleasing a majority really apply. You'd please everyone, majority and minority included, if you kept your updates to one thread. At the end of the day 90% of any comments you get will be along the lines of "AwEsOmE :emoticon:", and separating one thread into several simply gets more of the same. However, if it's more insightful, considered C&C and intelligent discourse you're after, then a more considered and cohesive post will attract that. To put it bluntly, with 6 of the same threads being posted, there just isn't anything to talk about Mods might not be too bothered at the moment, and I'm sure they wont be merged or anything, but imo it makes for inconsiderate forum usage. I don't want to detract from your work though, it looks good. I also agree that the axe is a good choice, it's very well proportioned and looks a lot more practical than most weapon configurations I've seen :D good job Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/147120-terminator-captain/#findComment-1708818 Share on other sites
Shiodome
only real problem with multiple threads is you're knocking a bunch of other peoples hard work off the front page so they hardly get seen. otherwise doesn't really matter.
