Ive just come across a small amount of loyalist space marines in a box at home, and I was wondering, would it be possible for me to use them as chaos space marines??

 

Or do they have to be "converted"

As long as your opponents know that they are traitors as opposed to loyalists... then I don't see any problem. Fluff-wise, they could be wearing captured armor, or simply be new recruits/renegades that have joined the ranks of the IW.

They've got power armor and bolters = no issues IMO.

 

They would of course look better converted up, at least take off the obvious imperial markings like chest eagles. The loyalist and chaos plastic kits are also wonderfully interchangeable, so mix away.

You could use them as is but it would look MUCH better if you got a box of csm's and just mixed and matched pieces from both sets, as someone else said they fit with each other w/out much trouble.

A cheap file will file the eagle off the chest in seconds.

If your oponent disagree's of their use, just say they just went renegade a few days ago, taaa-da, if he still insists you cant use them, engage him in a debate of fluff vs model representation until he shuts up

You could have your entire army be black reach marines painted as ultra marines and as long as you have the right weapons modelled nobody can complain about it from a rules perspective. There is no rule anywhere that says you have to use the models that come in the chaos marine boxes or anything.

Just put on the heads of chaos warriors from fantasy amd cover up the aqulia, you should be fine
