Warmasters Challenge 2008

Just got back from the 2008 Warmasters Challenge, I played in the 2000 points doubles tournament with my buddy and we had a blast.

We saw all ranges of armies from salamanders, carnifex armies, to imperial guards that were using LAV III and M1A1 models for their tanks.

Met lots of new faces and all were great people.

I have some pics of what I think are the more glorious moments where I was able to park my land raider of doom and spew forth black death towards my enemy.

Especially loved the 1st turn assault from the LRC.

However, I've learned something today...I need another land raider. I've never seen so many space marine land raiders in a 2000pts doubles match in my life. The new 5th edition really cranks them up, its insane!

There was 4 games total played.

The army my friend and I played were 1000pts of Black Templar and 1000pts of Blood Ravens.

1st scenario was a giant warpstorm. Faced off vs grey knights and smurfs. We lost but not by much. Facing 3 Land raiders is a little bit much if you ask me :( Nuff said about that one...Though the grey knights guy had one of the raiders with a speaker and a chip inside it. It was playing gregorian chants. Now that is some neat custom work.

2nd scenario was where we had to advance forward. We were facing 2000 pts of terminator death wings. It was nasty. Although it was a lot of fun because our opponents decided to ram my LRC with their vindicator which was funny when it rammed into the LRC and wound up stunning itself instead of doing anything to the LRC. I managed to spew black death into a squad of close combat terminators. Then 2 more sets of 5 terminators assaulted my 12 man squad. Managed to cut down 10 of the 15 terminators that assaulted. My dreadnought managed to kill both of his dreadnoughts, barely before being attacked by another close combat terminator squad. I whittled them down to 3 before he finally took out the dreadnought. It was a really close game and we lost by 2 points.

3rd scenario was capture the flag. We were facing a disgusting amount of orcs and some really neat custom eldars. Again, I managed to shrug off lance blows on the LRC and allowed for a first turn assault into a swarm of orcs. They didnt see it coming basically. 5 of the 12 templars managed to contact and the rest just fell nicely into place, and the ork boyz all piled in. Blood orks never knew what hit em. I had them down 4 out of the 25 that were in the group after I finished my first round of attacks. After that they took additional wounds and fell apart in a bloody mess. With that the Templar squad charged over towards the eldar. The eldar fight was MESSY. Eventually they took out the 10 man squad leaving only the Emperor's Champion and the Chaplain. After a grueling 2 rounds of close combat they downed the EC, but not without him taking out 3 more eldar with him. The chaplain finished off the rest of the squad on his own and marched onwards towards a shooty squad to which he promptly assaulted when my turn came up right away ;)

He marched in there and ripped 5 of them apart. All of their counter attacks missed with them only managing to score a single hit on him. They lost the combat, failed the leadership test and got caught in a sweeping advance. The Chaplain ripped up the entire squad single handedly. Im not sure if the rules were played correctly, but i'll have to look it up tomorrow. Still super impressed at the chaplain tearing apart 12 guys by himself. We won by a large amount on that fight due to the craziness of the ravens frag missiles into the sea of green. 8 frag missiles dumped into orks is quite amusing.

4th scenario was protect the objective markers. This was a long fight facing off against some green marines (dark angels i think) and some tau shooty stuff. The dark angels had 2 land raiders which really proved to be a pain in the arse. That and the raven dev squads not being able to land a single frag missile hit into clumps of scouts protecting the objective markers. The rolls were down the toilet all game. However we managed to deny 2 of the 3 objectives, barely. So this one worked out to be a super close draw.

It was a lot of fun and to top it off, there were tons of prizes for everyone, ranging from battleforces and tanks, to even a baneblade and all sorts of other goodies.

I was surprised that me and my friend were nominated as best sportsmen for the tournament. I guess sound effects, lots of laughing, excitement and just making sure we all have a good time of it all pays off :) But everyone we played with was great and they certainly showed it.

I'll post up some pics later on tomorrow when I can figure out how to get putfile to PUT files...its not working properly...
