Torrent of Fire

Topic says it all, the other night i was playing in a tournament and this came up. Does the rule still exist? I don't see it in the BBB, but my opponent insisted i missed it, and since i left my book at home, i let him have it, made the difference between a shot at first and a shot at third and when i got home i didn't see it anywhere, so i think i messed up by giving it to him. Any help here would be appreciated.

Under 5th edition, Torrent of Fire would allow the attacking player to allocate more wounds to a specific model than perhaps the defending player would have.

For example, if a five-man squad with veteran takes six wounds, ToF could be used to make the veteran take two saves, when under normal circumstances, the defending player would only choose to allocate one save to the veteran.

I've no idea if the rule is still there or not, though I haven't seen it in the 5th ed book

Simply put, it isn't in there any more.

Owning player always chooses who to allocate them to before saves, as per the rules for complex units on page 25. There are individuals who can override this but Torrent is dead and buried.

Torrent of Fire is gone as a specific rule and instead the new wound allocation rules replace it. Essentially the effect is still the same.

For example:

If I shoot a unit of 5 marines, 4 with bolters and one vet sgt, and inflict 5 wounds they each take one hit and the vet needs to make his own seperate saving throw.

It can get alot more complicated than that at times, but once you have the basics down it is pretty easy and doesn't normally take much extra time.

It doesn't exist anymore because there is no need for it to exist. If you take more wounds than a unit has models, every model in the unit will already be taking a specific save, thus providing the chance to kill of special weapons, upgrade characters, etc. In fact, the current rules are even better, because, using tac marines as an example, if you put 11 wounds on them, you have a chance of killing the sarge, the special weapons marine, and the heavy weapons marine, where with torrent, you only would've had a shot at one of the three, and unless the other player blew more than 7 of his other saves, the other two models would've been fine.

Torrent of fire on top of normal wound allocation would be redundant.
