what with the discussion about bikes (and the fact that they just look awesome) i decided to pick on up an build it with an Emperors Champion on it (yes i know its not technically allowed in the rules but meh, the group i game with dosnt mind)

I think the problem stems from the fact that the model doesn't appear to have been painted fully before the application of the mud splatter, which would have made it look 100x better, IMO. If it had been painted normally, highlighted appropriately, and then given the mud treatment AFTERWARDS. That would keep the mud from seeming like it is meant to replace an actual paintjob (no offense to OP, but that's the first thing that came to mind when I saw it.)
to be perfectly honest, i didnt put much paint time into it. i knew that the mud would cover most of the fig, so i wasnt as worried about smaller details. and from tabletop distance, you cant really see any fine detail, as the mud is so covering.

I agree 100% also I think that if you globbed alot of mud onto some areas and also made tire tracks in the mud behind it that would be great :)
