Priad
Hi all, I've been meaning to start a painting blog for a while now but I haven't really had an opportunity to. So here I'll update my painting progress and bla bla bla. My painting isn't very good at all, but I've been seing improvements in my minitures. The camera I'm using is terrible and I do not have a better one, so most pics will be blurry. I'm a freshman and my teachers give me tons of homework >< so I might not have time to update this every day. So here are the current pictures I've managed to take that have come out half decent. I'll edit this later with more pics. C and C will be much appreciated! So far of what I have painted in my army. It is made up of a Land Raider, Predator, 1 Tactical Squad, Half of a Tactical Squad, 2 Veteran Squads, Dreadnaught, and a Commander. Still to come I have to paint the rest of the tactical Squad 2, Assault Squad, Command Squad, 2 Deathwing Terminator Squads, as well as Belial and a Chaplain. Note that the two Veteran squads only have 4 members each. This is due to 1) Lost the second lightning claw on of them, 2) Need to get simple green to strip down the basecoat on one which came out flaky. http://img397.imageshack.us/img397/9555/myarmytw7.png The best picture I could come up with of one of my models. =[ http://img397.imageshack.us/img397/4884/troop1cr1.png A blurrier pic but allows you to see more of the color and highlights. http://img262.imageshack.us/img262/998/troop2sj2.png Another bad pic of one of my veterans. http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/9358/troop3pk8.png Oh and for now I'm not going to base my models for now (aka I dont have any basing materials) That all for now but I'll be back soon. Brother SRM
Does your camera have a detail setting? Look for a flower on it somewhere, or a button near a flower. That's the setting for a lot of detail. From what I can see (mostly the first pic) you've get a pretty classic Dark Angels scheme. The edge highlighting on the pred might be a little thick though, as it's easy to see even from a distance. Good work though! Looking forward to some more pictures! Priad
Thanks for the comment Brother SRM. For the camera, yes there is the flower symbol showing on the left. I guess it's just a bad camera. It's a "Olympus D-390 Digital Camera." I might get a new camera if I save up money. I was taking pictures of my Crimson Fists last night and a few came out blurry because I didn't wait for them. Another option is making sure the camera is steady - resting on a table or somesuch. Priad
Brother SRM - I will try some different picture taking techniques with my camera later today, thank you for the advice. Lord_bunny - Thanks for the comment. And the sword is not bent, the lighting just makes it appear like that. Alys Dwr
Your camera is fine. Take the pictures from further away, somewhere around 30cm will do fine, and take the picture. The marine will be quite small in the middle, all you need to do is crop the unneccessary surroundings and you're left with a nice, clear pic of the marine. Using a nutral (white) background helps, as the camera has nothing to focus on but the model. Hope that helps! Your models look nicely painted for the table, very similar to mine in fact! Only difference is i haven't line-highlighted my tanks, i gave them a light dry brushing of the highlight colour over the raised edges. Gotta love the Dark Angels! Priad
Thanks for the advice brothers. I have succeeded in taking a few betters pictures. I did not even have any light in the room as I just wanted to do the 30cm camera thing that Alys Dwr told me. http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/2732/troop4ij1.png http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/2329/troop5xp2.png Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/147446-painting-a-dark-angels-army/#findComment-1710175 Share on other sites
Priad
Hail brothers! I have made decent progress. I finished the 4 other men of my tactical squad. So, here they are. I'm not sure what I'll do next, I've been wanting to do my deathwing but I may just do the assault squad. I'm opnly posting the sergeant and the rocket launcher as the flamer and the bolter are nothing special. http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/3074/rocket1gg6.png http://img440.imageshack.us/img440/8564/sergeantwq3.png Comments please =D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/147446-painting-a-dark-angels-army/#findComment-1710933 Share on other sites
Priad
Excuse the triple post but no one is posting =[ Finished assembling my Assault Squad, will prime them now and start painting tomorrow. Backpacks are not glued on for now, as I will do them seperately. In the future I'll probably get 2-4 more squads of these and make 2 squads of 10. http://img440.imageshack.us/img440/7406/assault1ua4.png Sergeant http://img409.imageshack.us/img409/8869/assaultsarge1ux7.png Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/147446-painting-a-dark-angels-army/#findComment-1711546 Share on other sites
Alys Dwr
They're looking pretty good, you've gone and inspired me to get a move on with my DA. I'm curious about people painting back packs separately, i always paint it on the body and do the arms separate. And 2 full squads of assault marines should be everybodies goal, it's one step closer to having a full company! (i know it's something i'm hankering after) Al Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/147446-painting-a-dark-angels-army/#findComment-1711657 Share on other sites
Priad
I find it easier to paint the backpacks on seperately, as it gives me easier reach to certain angels. As for now, I just primed my assault squad, hoping to finish at least 2 guys tomorrow. Now I'm going to build my terminators. =O Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/147446-painting-a-dark-angels-army/#findComment-1711719 Share on other sites
