Vassakov
Right, here's my question - A LR Prometheous has two Sponsons, each with 2 Twin Linked Heavy Bolters. The question is the two heavy bolters seperate weapons for the purposes of firing and Weapon Destroyed results? I know of no other vehicle with this set up (eg two guns on one fire point) - the Crusaders Hurricane Bolters are defined as one weapon. Anyone got any ideas? Mycroft Holmes
The new Prometheous uses a new flamer type on the sponsons (hence the name.) They're independant weapons. nighthawks
that's the Redeemer. prometheus is a FW option, and if the bolters count as seperate weapons for firing, then they count as seperate for destruction, too. don't have the correct IA in front of me. Masked Thespian
The new Prometheous uses a new flamer type on the sponsons (hence the name.) They're independant weapons. *sigh* No... that's the Land Raider Redeemer, not the Land Raider Prometheus. As to the OP, I'm fairly sure that they each count as a separate weapons system (so you have four to destroy in total) as, despite the mounting of the model, the rules say nothing about them being co-axial or any similar wording. garreth
Two TL heavy bolters - it's one sponson (one weapon system), so when weapon destroyed result is scored, you must disable whole sponson. nurglespuss
Yep I agree, they fire together, they get blown up together. A predator with twin linked las turret loses both on a weapon destroyed, so why not a sponson? Lord Marius
I think the point was that they are two twin-linked weapons. Clearly, if a normal TL weapon is destroyed, we all know that both 'halves' are destroyed, as it is effectively one weapon with a special rule. If you have two hull mounted weapons, they don't both get wrecked when one weapon destroyed result is rolled, so I don't see why it should be the case with two sponson mounted weapons. Unless anyone knows of a rule that says so? nurglespuss
Ahh.. I now see the line of thought. I would have to agree that a 'weapon destroyed' result would remove 1 set of twin0linked heavy bolters, leaving one still in the sponson. Tfcdogbert
How does this work with the crusader? I believe one weapon destroyed result removes one "Hurricane" sponson, of 3 twin linked bolters and the same should apply to the Prometheus/ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/147535-land-raider-prometheous-sponsons/#findComment-1712883 Share on other sites
nighthawks
the hurricane bolter is a defined weapon, and consists of 6 bolters acting as 3 twin linked weapons. it is one weapon in terms of firing, destroying, etc... the Prometheus has 4 TLHBs, defined as a single weapon type, as 2 weapons per sponson. they are fired & destroyed piecemeal. see P8 of the 2006 Imperial Armour Update. Praeger
The difrence is rather simple. Ignore where the weapons are loctaed. Normal Land Raider: 1x twin-linked lascannon 1x twin-linked lascannon 1x twin-linked H-Bolter Crusader: 1x twin-linked assault cannon 1x twin-linked hurricane bolter 1x twin-linked hurricane bolter 1x meltagun Prometheus: 1x twin-linked H-Bolter 1x twin-linked H-Bolter 1x twin-linked H-Bolter 1x twin-linked H-Bolter and some other weapon that i cant remeber right now ;) In each cae when it comes to weapon destroyed you simply cross one of these weapons off the list and keep playing with what is left. AlexCrute
Take into consideration the ruling on dreadnought arms. Stormbolter goes with the DCCW if destroyed, so perhaps consider a houserule if RAW is unclear. Question is; does DREADNOUGHT ARM = TANK SPONSON? Seems like something you'll always need to clear with your opponent before every game - because it also affects how many weapons can fire after moving, which any opponent will be sure to consider. I favour the ARM = SPONSON interpretation, as otherwise I think the tank is borderline useless. Which is a pity, cos its the best-looking landraider around. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/147535-land-raider-prometheous-sponsons/#findComment-1713288 Share on other sites
